Despite the unfortunately off-putting title of this particular volume, Steele's "Near Space" universe is my pick as the best such series since Heinlein. It's a gritty and occasionally grim look at life and work in space in the near future. This book collects the short works that frame the novels. The three Diamondback Jack stories alone are worth the price of admision. Good stuff!

I thought this book was interesting, but I didn't buy into 100% of her cosmology. Some things resonated, especially the concept of mindfulness in all relationships, the idea of looking for what we've learned from others, even when the relationship is negative. As for the other stuff -- the cards, the astrology, the reincarnation stuff -- it's not my bag, but if you're into those ideas, you might really enjoy this book.

I bought this book for Zach, but decided to read it myself. I did think the leading someone through the Introspective Process could be a helpful tool (for my business and as a parent): First question: Tell me what you really want out of life more than anything else. (Goal should be to make the person comfortable enough to answer you in terms of how they feel rather than how they think). Once they begin to explain their feelings, follow up with: -What exactly do you mean by that? -What does that look like? -Why do you feel that way? -Tell me more about that... -Why is that important to you? -What does having that mean to you?

Hey Y'all this was an exiciting, passionate, emotion filled ride! I truelly enjoyed it! This series is very entertating. I absolutly adore it! The characters are intense, lovable, and we get to see previous characters from the other books in the series. It's a fun read and I recommand this series to everybody who likes paranormal romance with a little something extra!!!!!
Has some serious meat in it. However, it's a dry read. Black and white if you know what I mean (rather than his usual imaginitive writings).

More on government and inequality, and less on culture and society, than I expected from the title. This meant that a lot of the book was a journalistic take on things already (and, to my academically oriented taste, better) covered elsewhere, while I had hoped for an account more tied to media/entertainment/etc. I'd recommend this book to other people, I think, but not to myself.

Warning: This book about two teenage best friends dealing with cancer will make you cry. Touching, tender story.
One of my goals this year is to better familiarize myself with the most popular mystery writers - so I'm creating a mystery bookshelf for this purpose. If this book is typical of a J.A. Jance mystery, I wasn't impressed. I prefer mysteries that unravel slowly, where the reader knows the guilty party and understands their motives. I like surprises, but ones which make sense as you look back upon the book. This really had neither - the murderer stayed out of the story until the last chapter or so, and got caught because of his stupidity; much of the book was about the main character's upcoming wedding, with a parallel storyline dealing with the death of a neighbor. I liked the writing but it just went on and on with little to keep me interested. Perhaps it was because I entered the Joanna Brady series at #8 - but I really found little to enjoy about this one. Suggested readalikes were Tony Hillerman, Nevada Barr, and Janet Evanovich - I guess because of story location or female main character, but I'd read all three of these authors again before reading another one by Jance.
