Culler makes a great case for what we can learn from structuralism (how to avoid the 'unseemly rush from word to world'), and, perhaps more importantly right now, what we can't (positivism on the one hand, and relativism on the other). Can't wait to read his book on deconstruction.

I read this on a recommendation. It was okay. Lots of neat ideas for a wizard to be out in the open and work with cops on supernaturally slanted cases, but I never got the warm and fuzzys from the main character. YES I know I probably should get warm and fuzzy, but how does on commit to read a whole series of books about a character they don't give two figs about. eh. Prolly just a guy book thang.

Interesting to read about and frustrating to know what little choice we have to make changes in all the shit that goes into our food.

Right now, it just reminds me of the megaboob episode of "South Park," but less funny/entertaining. There's a lot of fanservice in this volume. I am compelled to find out the answer to the mystery, however, by reading volume 2.

This book has constant repetition but it can be use to introduce pre-k about their body parts. Integrating science and literacy at an early age.

I read this book, based on lectures given at Columbia University in 1914, while taking Peter Maxwell's History of Ancient Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. It is an excellent survey of the trends of Greek thought from the pre-Socratics to the rise of Christianity, presenting a cogent thesis as to the dynamics of this development.

Faster paced book than Boomsday. Also very funny. Some parts are predictable and a bit contrived, but overall another great social commentary.

If you're expecting this book to be anything like the film, it's not. Though it's still a great read, I really enjoyed it!
Cosmic Humanism, energy religion or "spiritualism" summed up by an amateur writer. The popularity of this book is not due to the writing, but instead to the straightforward initiation it offers the reader into the basic tenets of spiritualism. Most books on this worldview tend to employ a lot of jargon and esoteric back and forth - this book tells you pretty plainly what it's all about. In the age of reason it is very attractive to learn about and open oneself to one's correlating spiritual nature. The spiritual side is greatly underfed in Western culture and many people hunger for more spiritual food. There are all kinds of spirits though and I find that books like this and the movement of "spiritualism", varied as it may be, leave followers unprepared to discriminate between the types of spiritual experiences they may have. I think there is a lot of truth in this book, but it can be very dangerous and difficult for those who open up the spiritual realm to guard themselves from harmful influences and the sometimes deep confusion and disorientation it can lead to. Starting with a book that brings a positive spiritual influence into one's life, so that the difference can be recognized, is far more powerful in bringing one to higher consciousness and greater happiness.
