The beginning of the book was very hard to get through. It wasn't until 3/4's through that I started to like the book. I did enjoy the historical reference of Detroit. Cal seemed detached and I couldn't connect.

Gives a fascinating tour of early human history, studying why certain populations of people developed food production and political systems before others did, and the implications of the continents being shaped differently and having different amounts of resources. Some parts read somewhat dry like a textbook, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS BOOK AT ALL! It should be called The taking boy! Because the boy takes and takes stuff from the tree!

Fascinating memoir written by an African American man as a tribute to his white mother.
This is one of those stories that's great for kids who can read chapter books, but who don't want something too long and still enjoy the support of illustrations (which are sweet and straightforward). Although Clara Lee is a third-grader, the content makes it perfect for younger kids as well, those kids who are strong readers early on and enjoy realistic stories. Clara Lee has a great relationship with her grandfather and a not-so-great one with her younger sister, and she starts tracking her Good Luck and Bad Luck as she musters her courage to try out for being Little Miss Apple Pie in the annual festival. She's got a great, casual conversational tone that engages the reader, and her friendships and relationships with her family members ring true. Source: review copy from publisher, although I got a library copy to look at the final illustrations.
One of the best productions I have ever seen, music, set and story are amazing. I had no idea what the play was about when we went. Then I heard people talking about it being depressing in the lobby. Oh no, I thought! but i loved it. it caught you up and as it twisted and turned you were right there with them. I highly recommend this play!
I thought this book wa fiercely entertaining! It made me reconsider the ways in which I remember (or don't) important moments in my life, and I can still do it: Pickled garlic, cottage cheese, grilled salmon, six bottles of wine, men's black socks, three hula hoops, snorkel, dry ice, bull horn, director's chair, moose, Paul Newman album, skin-colored cat suit, harness, barometer. Woo hoo!
