Cat is a smart, chubby, 11th grade science genius until she decides to start living life like a hominin (as much as common sense and safety allow) as her science fair project. She wants to study the effects of the modern diet on the body to prove that modern conveniences make humans less healthy. She begins walking to school, avoiding processed foods, and cooking her own meals. Eventually she decides to become a vegetarian. She quickly begins to lose weight, and her physical transformation attracts boys but not the right ones. She has been nursing a mysterious hurt done by her former best friend, Matt, in the seventh grade. She can't forgive him and professes to hate him, but she's obsessed with beating him. As for Matt, Cat thinks he hates her, but he seems want to protect her and is confused about why she hates him. Cat has her best friend, Amanda, who is all around perfect: beautiful, tall, artistic, fashion conscious, and loyal. Oh, and she writes poetry and is a language wizard. Amanda and her boyfriend Jordan support Cat and encourage her to enjoy her newfound life. Brande should've written a nonfiction book about healthy living and eating because that is pretty much the point here. The book does get better in the end, but most of the story alternates between Cat's healthy choices and her anger at Matt's past sins. Brande keeps this a secret until the end when Cat drops the bomb on Matt. This mystery is rediculous since it's fairly obvious from the beginning that he make a comment about her weight. I didn't really care for this book or for some of its undertones. For example, Cat gets a little boy crazy and lonely after she loses weight, but she says she never really worried about boys before because she new a relationship was an impossibility. Also, she says there was no point in shopping when she was fat because she didn't look good any way. I understand that people have different body issues and different levels of acceptance, but the sticky sweet perfect ending with Cat and her boy friend and her skinny body was just a little sour for me. (Grades 8 and up)

** spoiler alert ** I loved this book, from start to finish! Julie Kagawa did a phenomenal job with this book! There were parts where it broke my heart and made me cry, but it was a good feeling to have regarding situations in this book. I loved how we were able to see how the characters have grown since the first book, The Iron King. I also love we get to see that there are good fey both in Summer and Winter that were to able to put their differences aside and help out. I loved Iron Horse in this book, such a sweet strong character. I also loved how we were able to get to see cute Ethan again. I loved Puck in this and felt sad for him at the end. I am all about Team Ash but I do love Puck too. However Meghan and Ash for sure belong together. I also love how we were able to Oberon step up to the plate for Meghan a few times. I am still not sure what his true intentions are or if he has a hidden agenda, because after all the fey can can be very selfish and cruel! Like always I love when Grim is around he always makes things funny or interesting! I loved the end when Ash stood up to the Queen and wouldn't swear an oath to cut off all ties to Meghan! HELLO! Like he would have done that! Finally I loved how Meghan really grew in this book and how she would go to the ends of the earth to save Ash!

Exciting book, but I think it has to much focus on the Shakespeare history.

This book is a compilation of anecdotes/stories about Bill Bass' life as a forensic anthropologist. Although the book is filled with information that is intriguing, for those that like to dabble a little in morbidity, the writing doesn't give the reader any motivation to continue once the chapter is done. On top of that, it takes seven chapters to finally reach The Body Farm. I would recommend this book to someone who is really interested in the anthropological aspect of criminal investigation. The book is repetitive in the techniques used to make conclusions... almost as if the book was meant to be read one chapter individually.

I am hooked, this book is like a comedic police drama on TV. I actually laughed out loud in parts.
