Y’all know how I like a woman who can stand on her own two feet and who can kick ass when needed and not hide in a corner or behind a man? Well if you like that as well than you will most definitely like Bianca: The Silver Age, trust me on that. Sci-fi setting or not, this book was a fresh wind through my read booklist a while back. Let me see if I can tell you why this book rocks! Jeff Pearce is a not so well know author yet, but he sure knows his way around words. When he wrote Bianca, he wrote a book with an original setting – well at least to me – a cast of unique characters and an action adventure mystery story that will keep you on the edge of your seat! This story is mainly about Bianca and the friends she collects along the way. She’s most definitely not your average kinda gal in a post-economic apocalypse world that is called ‘The Age of the Paladins’ – crime fighters who protect those who need protecting. She’s a succubus. Yes, you heard that right, she lives of sex - she has to maintain a balance or go insane. Despite that, she is independent and smart, has skills and wit and a soft side. She doesn’t just give up. She becomes entangled in a dark plot. Together with others she has to get to the bottom of it and soon! People are dying! The writing is very good. The author creates a world that is not just your typical sci-fi setting with some stock characters. While there is a big evil, that is not just the main focus of the story. The author not only creates an original world and knows how to populate it; he creates character with some unique skills too. Combat Yoga anyone? It’s enough to make this story believable, fun and not far-fetched! I’m not a real big fan of sci-fi, but this book is GOOD. It’s sci-fi with a dark edge. I really enjoyed reading it and I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author. So the conclusion: if you’re looking for something different and you like sci-fi and you want a kick-ass heroine? Then this book is most definitely for you! Go get it!

** spoiler alert ** She sees him, lusts after him, marries him. He rapes her on her wedding night, he is full of lice, he terrorizes his peasants (kills them when he suspects someone is robbing him), he ignores her. And then, one night she bathes him, he behaves like a normal being and is a little gentle, and she thinks: "I love him ". Oh, no. I couldn't keep reading, even knowing that the "taming" has just begun. The wedding night is one of the must demeaning scences I've read so far.

First off, let me just say this book deserves more than 5 stars! My 5 year old HAD a favorite bible out of the 3 kids bibles she has. She really loved her bible and it would honestly take alot to top that favorite bible. But The Ultimate DVD Bible did just that! The DVD is fantastically done, my 5 year old would rather watch it again than watch nickelodeon! Personally, the only fault I can find with the DVD is the narrator's voice is not the perfect choice in my opinion, but its really not that bad. I'd still give the narrator 9 out of 10. Even my teenagers will sit down & watch the dvd! The bible stories in the book are typical of what would be found in a story bible for an older toddler or preschooler. But what I really loved about the Ultimate Bible is that there is a little blurb at the end of each couple pages with thought provoking questions and topics to further discuss with your child. None of her other bibles have this. The combination of the great DVDs and hardcover book makes this a must have in my opinion. I know I will be purchasing more copies to give as gifts!

I often wish it's possible to give half stars on GoodReads. I enjoyed this book and loved the premise of learning something that was previously hidden about a family member. I think my reason for not giving it five stars is that I didn't care very much about the characters. . . with the exception of Robyn (the comatose sister, I think. I had a terrible time remembering whether Robyn was Molly or Molly was Robyn. Clearly this is MY problem and not the fault of the author, but it reinforced for me why I always try to give characters names that sound very different from one another). Anyhow, when Delinsky wrote Robyn's diary entries, the book came to life for me. I loved her very real voice. I also liked Delinsky's tackling of the difficult choice a family needs to make with regard to organ donation. A four and a half star book, for me.
