This is a wonderful book and series. It isn't heavy mystery fiction, but it has a charming quality that is best expressed by the main character Odd Thomas. I completely enjoy Odd's self depreciating humor and his unassuming way. Being followed by the ghost of Elvis lends it's own charm as well. I can say that whatever prompted Dean Koontz to create the Bodouch's, he must have seem somthing that gave him the creeps because his description is the most accurate one I've heard by someone who doesn't know what they are seeing for Shadows. Creepy, sad, and endearing, Odd Thomas is a great book to read when you just want to enjoy somthing light.

(Translation at the end of review) Ich finde Benjamin Leberts Schreibstil wirklich interessant, der Grund weshalb ich diesem Buch jedoch nur 2 Sterne gegeben habe ist, dass er obwohl er versucht hat poetisch und philosphisch die Konflikte unserer Geselschaft wiederzugeben, nur eine sehr einseitige Sicht darstellt. Benjmain Leberts writing style is really interesting, but the reason I gave this book just 2 stars is, that even though he tried to show the conflicts of our society peotical and philosophical, he just created a one sided view. The critque of society seems to be shallow and cliche. In this book you had to be somebdoy with serious personality disfunctions to realize that. Also the plot was easy to get. I think the book would have been better, if Liebert focused more on the love triangle and cut the entire story in the train. Through the old rule 'show, dont tell' he could enlarge the interaction between individual and society and decrease the shallow aspect.

Ive always been drawn to people's true life stories, particularly those that are tales of overcoming some of the worst events in life that anyone can imagine. Vanessa Steel endured years of abuse and neglect by those she was supposed to have been able to trust and yet, out of all that, today she is a happy woman, with a family of her own who love and adore her like she does them. Stories like this are testament to the strength of the human spirit. It wasn't the easiest of reads, but it was thought provoking and I couldn't help but smile as Vanessa slowly got her life back and found the happiness she deserves.

Great book. I liked What's So Amazing About Grace a little better but this one was definitely full of challenging ideas and questions. Worth a read if you are digging into faith.

This is my favorite book of all time. I'm glad I read it now by choice instead of having it shoved down my throat in high school.

I didn't much care for Bunch's writing style. I also had some issues with the plot and it's clicheness at times. The pirate's life was definitely glorified and Gareth seemed to have too many modern sensibilities in a world based off of medieval times. It was a fast read, though. The ending was not satisfying at all since the Linyati slavers were still around and on the brink of war with Gareth's people, and there is no sequel out as of yet, planned as near as I can tell.
