Wish I knew when I finished the story about Tammy and Nate.. I apparently started reading this on February 1st in 2011, which would mean I also finished it then LOL Love those two! They gave me a craving for mating stories from other packmates, with less drama. Especially "early mates" stories. Hah.

I love Dorianne Laux, and her latest collection is no exception. Here's a link to my review for the Poetry Readers Challenge group here at Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

A lovely little philosophy book where Lindbergh is reminded of some valuable life lessons while spending a solitary vacation by the ocean. Each shell she finds on the beach serves as a metaphor for such things as patience, grace, the art of solitude and contemplation—the importance of a simple life. She applies this to relationships and life’s struggles. I like her analogy of comparing a good relationship to a pattern like a dance. Partners don’t need to hold on tightly because they move confidently in the same pattern. Each cycle of the tide is valid as each cycle of a relationship is valid. The shells remind her that the sea recedes and returns eternally. She is reminded by the shells she takes home with her to see with ‘island’ eyes—to maintain a balance of physical, intellectual and spiritual life. This is a book to savor and reread often.

Resources on what to do with stuff you get rid of seem useful. The tone of the book is a little too cheer-leader for me. After dealing with getting rid of objects she goes into getting rid of emotional baggage and the need for a personal theme song (apparently she took Ally McBeal a little too seriously!)

Wow, was this book beautifully written. The prose were smooth as silk from the very first page (which is expected being that this novel is all about authors). While I was reading, I was enthralled, however this was one of those books that you hesitate to pick back up if you're not in the "right mood" whatever that is (which is one reason it took me so long to get through). There are some pretty heady topics covered here, and I've found with most works of "literature" that I have to emotionally prepare myself to deal with difficult situations. I'll admit that I was completely blind-sided by the final twist; it almost seemed to come out of nowhere. I highly recommend The Thirteenth Tale to anyone who likes their characters mysterious with a major dose of intrigue.

As Sookie stories go, this one wasn't one of the best. It seems like my favorite authors are doing "holding pattern" books and this was one of them. I have a feeling the next one is going to be a doozy, but this one was just a set up, kinda like "Smokin' 17" and the last Odd Thomas book. sigh...

http://myaddictionisreading.blogspot.... I really wanted to like this story more than I did. I felt that it was nice to have the point of view of a male character in Jackson. I liked that we got to see his emotions in not only dealing with his father, but seeing his sister "years after" her death again, and spending time with Holly in a past they never shared. For some reason I didn't connect with the characters the way I would have liked. There was something missing to make me really feel like I had a stake in what happened to them. The progression of events moved a little slow for most of the story. This story really kicks in at the very end and I think that if the author took the last 15% or so and went on from there it would have been more successful. Not a bad book, just lacking in some areas.

Don't be fooled by the horrible movie. This is a classic.

Not really what I was expecting, I found this somewhat self-indulgent and not really that brilliant - I did skim some chunks, esp the LONG letter from his friend Chris. I am slightly suspicious of people who spend their time trying to figure out the meaning of life and their place in it - rather egotistical in my opinion, and really a waste of time as I'm sure the universe will continue on it's way regardless of our thoughts on it (though of course I could be wrong ... I'm sure Tim Allen wouldn't agree!). I guess if you're interested in quantum physics and existentialism you might enjoy this ...
