I liked the book. Lucy has sacrificed all these years to be mother and father to her son, whom she had at 17. She currently is a seamstress and owns her own shop. Business has been slow lately and the shop is in need of repairs. Lucy ends up going with a friend to a psychic, who tells her later that she's only got until next Friday to live. So Lucy takes stock of her life and starts making changes. BUt when it turns out there's been a mistake, Lucy goes into a panic. It was great to see Lucy shake up her life. She made a list and accomplished almost all of it. She went out of her comfort zone and really said and did what she wanted to, instead of what she should have. And when it all went wrong, she backslid a little and then decided to take her new self forward.

This series is such good mystery. Russ and Claire are so vivid and fun, and the plots are interesting. The setting Spencer-Fleming has created in Miller's Kill is unique, with characters that are so vastly different from each other and yet all so alive. Can't wait until the newest book in the series!

I'm reading this right now with my kids. It's based on Fast Food Nation, and it has the same wide scope. I've been skipping around a bit, but in general, the kids really like it. Also, like Fast Food Nation, some parts are more tedious than others. If you read it with a class, I suggest skipping around.

O jedničku hvězdičku míň za ten konec. Happy end bych si teda představovala jinak, ale aspoň nemůžu říct, že to bylo předvídatelné. Naštvalo mně, že nebylo vystvětlený (view spoiler) Vím že si to můžu domyslet ale ty dvě tři věty už by ji snad nezabily:D

Somewhat of a tough read, but in the end worthwhile. Interesting story of a woman with cancer and how her cancerous cells were cultured and used in medical research. Her cells led scientists to realize that the cause of cervical cancer is the HPV virus.
