Still reading it but am quite disappointed by the language. So much swearing is unsettling and distracting. She began well, but the humour seems to be submerged under the language. A waste. Perhaps it is my mood. It might also be that I borrowed a copy for my mother and I know she doesn't like that sort of language. Now that I am finished the book: The book finished, if, as the author ponders, things can be said to finish, better than it seemed it would. It all seemed to be about her personal search for identity and the project of mastering the art of French cooking is what enabled her to accept life and move on. Since there are so very many books out there, I am not sure I would recommend it highly - not just the language, but the self-absorption. Again, it might be my mood. It was kind of neat that she had a blog in 2002 and that white teethe were the rage back then as well. I made a note to look for the Chateau Greysac wine, and a book by Elizabeth Gilbert.

In the past I kept reserving this book for scripture reading, but that wasn't actually happening. So I decided to read the book like I would my next novel: every time I wanted to read a book, I picked up this one. I got it finished in about a month that way (and that's with skipping a bunch of the scripture study sections). And who knew that the book is life-changingly good! It's straight-forward and clear. If you're Mormon and you haven't read it, READ IT! You'll learn a ton and be inspired along the way. I intend to go back and read the scripture study sections. There's a lot of really good material in there.
