I love Bill Cosby. Enough said.
While The Bear and The Dragon was a pretty good read there were a few things that I felt were weak. For starters the entire process by which the US Spy infiltrates the Chinese governments computer systems with his "undetectable" trojan. If he is delivering the computer, installing it for them, and who knows what else, why didn't he just deliver it with the trojan in place instead of having to screw his way into the office? I just don't get that. Secondly was the presidents reaction at the end of the story when all hell is breaking loose. I don't want to say too much but, "Gimme a Break", he has a responsibility as president and Jack Ryan never seemed like the kind to shirk responsibility - until the end of this book when he suddenly gets a whacked out definition of right-vs-wrong. The only other thing that bothered me about the book was that almost every man in the story was exactly the same; particularly the US soldiers. Gimme a break.

I really liked his other book, The Beach, but this one was pretty lame.
Charming. Easy read. Applicable for business women.

It seems silly to wander off in to the wilderness with minimal gear. How far is a bag of rice going to get you? Exploring new lands is a human curiosity, but the will to live should urge a little more preparation against death.

** spoiler alert ** It was ok... the teenage angst is palpable in Ever's continual search for the antidote. I understand the reasoning for dragging it out, I just feel that it is taking a loooong time (several books) for a resolution. At this point, I am getting tired of the series, although I will trude through the last book just to see how the author wraps it up. Altogether not a bad series, just not on par with Twilight or Fever.

Garp is the kind of parent that I picture myself being, should the situation arise.

Collen Houck never fails to disappoint anyone. Tiger's Quest takes place where it finished. Kelsey goes back home to Oregon, knowing that the man she loves, is in India and she's getting back to her old life before she met them. Now she starts school, meets new guys and thinks to herself that she might actually have a normally life again, but we all know her life's never been normal. she gets a surprise visit from Ren and his brother, Kishan (later on in the book) and brings her back to India to help get the next item that they need to defeat Lokesh and save India as well. there's also so bumps in the road, like how she goes to Tibet, Shangri-La and starts to have conflicting feelings towards the two brothers. there's a surprise twist in the end (i'm not saying anything about that) and overall, i'm excited for the new book to come soon. Colleen Houck is truly a gifted author for one so new and we all love her for it!!!

The narrator of Vipers' Tangle is a near-perfect mix of Dostoevsky's Underground Man and Tolstoy's Ivan Ilych. Which is to say, he's a bitter, bitter bastard. For some reason, I felt sure that this book would end up heavy-handed or sentimental. Early on Louis is just too miserly, to the point where it's almost beyond credulity. Rather than clumsily over-playing his hand, Mauriac, it turns out, intentionally includes this too-greedy-to-be-believed aspect as an effective plot point. Every time you think the story's driving to an inevitable, predictable conclusion, he takes a left turn. Mauriac also has the good sense to leave the outcome of Louis' soul (which is the culmination of the novel) as ambiguous. Different readers will come to opposite conclusions here--some will side with Hubert and some with Janine. Based on the fact that this is a "Loyola Classics Series" novel, however, I think we can guess where the author stands.
