So I love the TV show "Castle." Yes I know it is nerdy and basically a rip-off of "Bones," which I also love. I'm probably revealing too much about myself here. Anyway, in the TV show this book is "written" by Richard Castle, the main character. So the producers actually had someone WRITE the book for real! When you pick up this book they make it look like Richard Castle actually did write it---it has his photo on it and everything, but obviously Richard Castle is played by an actor so the actor didn't write it and Richard Castle isn't real. They had it written just for publicity. Funny huh? Anyway, nothing special, but if you like "Castle," it's like reading a "Castle" episode all week, with a few changes. Fun read. Recommended for "Castle" watchers.

This book is fascinating for many reasons, many of them personal--as an amateur Arthurian scholar and medievalist, as a novelist, a recent convert to Steinbeck fandom, and a reader and lover of words. A huge asset is the appendix of letters Steinbeck wrote during his eight year odyssey with translating Malory's Morte D'Arte for the modern reader and falling short of the goal. Of the four sections he tackled, the first two on Merlin and Arthur's marriage are faithful adaptations, but still Steinbeck's sensibility and gift for prose make them come alive with a freshness that surprised me as one so grounded in the romances. I am rather jaded at this point with modern writers who try to adapt the romances to modern fiction, staying faithful in the wrong places and straying from them in ways that prove artificial and betray the material. Somehow Steinbeck, though guided by his own sensibilities, pulls it off without violating the original author's vision. In the final two sections, Steinbeck transforms knightly adventures of a handful of pages to span a hundred, and here Steinbeck gives full reign to his vision of who are these men and what did they think and feel as they pursued their quests and met various damsels. The characters jump off the page, and his Lancelot is a fascinating mix of excellence and limitedness. It is also interesting to watch how a writer known for his realism and failed dreams revels in a world where necromancy, giants, dwarves, dragons and unicorns are very real, and how he adapts a literature of symbolism to speak to a modern audience without betraying it.

So far, I've been enjoying it a lot. In case of making mistakes, people normally say "I'm only a human being" but when they do something briliant and recieve compelements from ppl around they don't say: " Yes! I've been amazed myself too, I did it because I am a human". Being a human itself is a magnificent oppoutunity for making the most of staying in the world.

First of all I would like to say this is a great book and recommend that everyone reads this book! This book is an over view of the life of legendary NFL head Coach Tony Dungy, from the first time he started coaching. This book keeps the reader hooked with unexspected twists, insperation, and the strength of one man and the impact he had not only on football but also in the lives of everyone he met. The theme of Quiet Strength is that no matter what happans in life you can always work your way through the problem and become a better person. Tony reveals this to the reader throughout the book. He has gone through about as much as anyone can but over and over he proves that with the stregth of God all things are possible. The character devolopment is very evident in this book. The further you read the more you can see how he grows stronger and is able to resist temptation and go against the grain. While everyone tells him he should do it this way he listens to God and through that he becomes a stronger person. This book, Quiet Strength, has been a personal favorite. I have never before read a book that has given me more incouragement and has shown me more life lessons then this book has. I recommend that everyone reads this book because you will never regret doing it.

So where do I begin? I find this book rather strange. Weird. I don’t know. Usually, when I finished reading a book, I’d hear myself utter a word or two about what I felt about the book; like, “Wow” or “That was fun.” But there are moments, once in a while, that when I turn over the last page, I find myself speechless. It can mean a good thing or a bad thing, or sometimes I just don’t know what I feel. At this point, I’m still undecided about Winter’s Child. It was interesting and definitely a new twist to the classic story of The Snow Queen, but I don’t know whether I liked it or didn’t. It’s just really strange. This retelling started out with the introduction of the Winter Child’s life. Followed shortly by the life of Grace and Kai. Then Kai asks Grace to marry him, assuming he thought that was the best idea at the time. Grace says no, and he goes of following the Winter Child, Deirdre, back to her kingdom. So this is where the adventure begins. Grace goes out to find Kai and apologize, and supposedly to take back her refusal to marry him. She comes across obstacles and meets new people; make new friends, as well as enemies. On particular friend she found tagged along her journey, a falcon. So on she goes, blah blah blah… This is where it gets all strange. Also, if you’re planning to read this book, stop reading this review at this point, it gets a little spoiler-ish. She comes across a house with an old woman, this is supposedly a test but the solution to pass this test was just really weird. I don’t get it with just simply THAT (can’t say what it is, sorry), you can break a powerful curse or spell. The other parts that followed after this event just left me puzzled. I didn’t know what to think about it. I didn’t get the idea of what it had to do with this retelling. So overall I think this was good. I’m in neutral territory on this book though, I didn’t hate but I didn’t love it either. For more of my reviews, please visit my blog: The Blair Book Project @ www.theblairbookproject.blogspot.com

I couldn't finish this in audiobook form. I primarily listen to audiobooks while knitting. Short stories require a lot more concentration to follow the story. Stories were great -- some I had heard independently before. Probably would be better to read in hard copy form.
