It was nice to revisit this world of the Archangels - like getting together with friends. It was a good story - it was good to get backstory on Dmitri and I enjoyed Honor. But I admit I enjoyed some of the peripheral characters (and character mentions!) more - like ASHWINI!!!! JANVIER!!! I cannot wait to read more of their story and I was quite pleased with the mentions of them in this book. There novella Angel's Pawn is one that I do frequently revisit . Sorrow and Venom were also quite interesting. And anytime I get more information on the Seven is a good thing.

I'm still mulling this one over. The book was based loosely on strange found photographs, which I loved. When Jacob was a child, his grandfather told him amazing stories of his childhood that were fascinating and maybe true, maybe fantasy. When Jacob is 16 years old he goes in search of the truth. So many things to love: a Welsh island, time travel, the 1940s, a boy who loves his grandfather, peculiar children, wonderfully weird photos, quirky characters. I love a book that makes me want to keep reading into the night and refuses to be put down. But I am having a difficult time with this YA genre. What does Young Adult really mean? The Young Adult Library Services of the American Library Association defines a young adult as "someone between the ages of twelve and eighteen". I have also heard YA literature defined as texts written for ages twelve and up. I'm sorry, but I just don't see 12-year-olds as young adults. In fact, I don't see older teens as young adults. I really have a problem with this description. I think that this book would be great for older teens, but I wouldn't recommend it to the young target audience because the language is strong, parts are really frightening and not in the kind of context of Harry Potter good vs. evil so much as just creepy frightening. So, while I can recommend this book to adult readers of fantasy and sci-fi thrillers, I wouldn't recommend it to my young students.

This was my first introduction to the Charlie Bone series....and I loved it. I was hooked! I listened to the whole series on my iPod and loved them so much I went out and bought all the books. I've recommended Charlie Bone to many of my students who are semi-reluctant readers and they've all come back wanting to read more, so I consider that a huge plus for the book!

i love this anthology
This book, in dialectic with Orwell's 1984, with some cross-reference to Plato's cave allegory, is pretty much what I use to think about the impact and meaning of technological change. For me, the turning point was when I realized that the future Huxley describes isn't necessarily dystopian. The world could come to be like that, and its inhabitants wouldn't necessarily suffer any more than they do now. Life might be less meaningful, but... they wouldn't know any different, so how would they know? So what I learned is that the future isn't only about utopias and zombies, it's also just a matter of choices and preferences. Or something like that. History's written by those who wrote; lived by those who lived; written by those who live.
I learned that a good story is a mixture of history, fantasy and life. I loved this book.

I chose to read this book rather than sleep it was that good. I really enjoyed the unique perspective on the dysfunctional family; despite illness and addictions there was so much love. This book demonstrates how resilient people can be and it reminded me how superficial my own problems are.

Two people are in a relationship and Kundera brilliantly strings together their disconnected thoughts. The paranoid Chantal obsesses about men not being attracted to her anymore and is overly excited when she starts receiving letters from an admirer. Her lover Jean-Marc is forever disturbed for not being able to identify her in crowded places and mistaking other women for Chantal. Throughout the book Kundera oscillates between the very real and the imaginary.
