The title is a reference to the Biblical story of those who carried the paralytic to Jesus. The story is in Mark 2:1-12. This book has long been a favorite and since it isn't hardback, the poor book is falling apart, yet I can't bear to throw it away. It continues to remind me of what is important.
Not since Anthony Burgess has anyone so captured the voice and heart of William Shakespeare. This almost stream of conscious effort is startling in its color, descriptiveness and directness of prose. Astounding!
this book was a blast to read. it was so fucking hilarious and innappropriate for my age but i loved every second of it.
This was an upsetting and disturbing book that actually changed my opinion on the death penalty. The book follows the crime, arrest, trial and conviction of the killing of 3 boys in West Memphis. I'm not 100% convinced the three convicted didn't actually committ the murders, but I'm not sure they did either and yet they are in prison for life and one on death row. I used to be supporter of the death penalty, believing that it was a just penalty for certain crimes. I still believe that in theory, however I don't believe it can exist in our criminal justice system. I think too many doubts and mistakes can be made that could cause an innocent person to be convicted in this country. I know people have been put to death that have been innocent and I believe it will happen again and I just think that is too high a price to pay.

oh man, devastatingly depressing, but written really well and in a very cool jumping-back-and-forth-in-time style.

You're not going to finish the book feeling particularly enlightened, but you're going to want to pick up the next one right away. Not a bad read- MJD has a great imagination and has created s great character of Betsy the Vampire Queen.
Although this book gets a fair amount of grief it will always hold a special place for me because it was one of the first books I read which got me interested in philosophy and explained things at a level I could understand without yet knowing any of the philosophical jargon.
