Lived up to expectations. One of my favorite reads of all time. Some of the best characters ever in a book. I'd highly suggest.
Overall, I really liked this book. There were some spots where Steinbeck started waxing too poetically and I had to put it down or plow through, but the enjoyable bits vastly outnumbered those. A very interesting look of 1960s America through his eyes.

It seems weird, but just don't take it too seriously. It is kinda fun.

As with Inkheart, I liked this but wasn't nuts about it. I found it somewhat predictable and clunky.
Wow... do I shelve this book as realistic fiction? That's a scary thought! I suppose it COULD be real, though I'd never wish this kind of life on anyone! So, this book was definitely unlike any I'd ever read before, because the main character, Hannah, was just SO UNIQUE! I mean, she's essentially Hugh Hefner's illegitimate daughter. In this story, her dad's name is Jackson James and he lives in a CASTLE (which he bought from England and had reassembled here in the US) instead of the Playboy Mansion... And Hannah's mom is a former "special girl" aka Playboy Bunny of Jackson's who now runs her own website where she host live chats with paid clients with her in lingerie... Talk about embarrassing parents! Holy cow! Anyway, the description above is really good. She works in a fast food call center (new concept for me... I wonder which chains use this type of service!) with these two guys she goes to school with: Josh, the completely pretentious prick who Hannah is convinced is her soul mate, and Finn, the nice and funny football player (he's apparently a permanent bench-warmer though, lest you think he's a stereotype). Yeah..... drama ensues, of course. Anyway, will Hannah learn to cope with her BIZARRO parents? Will Hannah ever realize what a complete buttface Josh is and how utterly adorable Finn is? (Oye... I hope so!) Read and find out!

I say 3.5 to maybe 4 stars. I didn't feel I could rate it any higher (than I did) having not really read it all. There is lot's of interesting stuff in there. I'm impressed with the author and all the knowledge in church history he has been able to gather. I'll probably skim through his other book, "500 MORE little known facts in Mormon History." someday.
I love Michael Chabon. Love him. Everyone moderately literate should read Kavalier and Clay. This book was fine, which I consider beneath him. It's a quick read, and entertaining, but don't take it as a good indication of his (outstanding) abilities.
I enjoyed this book much more than I thought that I would. Loved the different characters and how they interact with each other. Jude irritated me at first and then really grew on me.

Good practice for the LAST, but I didn't find it helpful for the ATS-W. The practice tests were very different from the real test.
