I'm slowly working though this book and haven't had a single disappointment. 160 traditional Indian recipes with a healthy California influence.

Another in the Joe Pickett, Wyoming game warden mysteries. This story involves a conspiracy to eliminate major environmentalists and Pickett becomes involved in solving the deaths. The story centers around the Picket family members, the corrupt sheriff, a mysterious ranchers association, and hired killers.

Maybe I was spoiled by the movie, but the book just didn't carry the same shock value (presumably becuase I already knew essentially how it was going to end). I really appreciate the book, as it gave an even deeper complexity to what was shown on the big screen, but I would have to say that film trumps the book on this one. I do wonder what my opinion would have been if I had read the book first...but you can't go back and do it over again and MAN did that movie have a twisted ending the first time I saw it! I wish I could experience it again, but I just doesn't feel the same the second time around.

I really liked this book, and I'm probably gonna read it again. I like the symbolism Morrison used to illustrate her view of society. I also like how the author includes actual events from the time period the novel was set. It brings the text into reality, which helps the reader connect with the ideas of society that are created.

an absurd, funny, and surprisingly poignant book. especially funny if you know a bit about former Soviet culture...
The descriptions of a dystopian society reminded me a little bit of reading 1984, but I liked this much better because there's something intensely chilling about watching life just fall apart for the narrator. Atwood has a great way of capturing the 'sanitized' life that the regime creates -- new vocabulary, new dress, etc. -- and one of my favorite parts of the book is where the narrator steals away in the night to read old Life magazines and play Scrabble. I also really like the epilogue, too.
