It made me cry. It's not great art but a very intense look into the thoughts of someone who is struggling to hold onto her mind and trying to keep her spirits up. Here's an author bio as swiped from Amazon.com: Born in 1894, the daughter of theologian Arthur Cushman McGiffert, the author was educated at Barnard College and married geographer John Kirtland Wright. She edited a number of books and raised three children in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, and later moved with her husband to Lyme, New Hampshire. In her later years she lived in a retirement home in Cincinnati, Ohio, near her son, English professor and author, Austin McGiffert Wright. She died in 1986. In full disclosure: she was my grandmother!

‘You think you got it bad…you think the world owe you something…’ Chance Major is the oldest child born to Vonetta Major, a single mother of three. He observes his mothers struggles as she strives to make a living for her children, keep them from trouble and overcome her addiction. In taking responsibility as the man of the house, Chance finds his hustle in becoming a thief. A thief is a thief… but with Chance Major, he takes it to another level. Chance recognizes that he has other talents but his goal is to get money and his intelligence in books will not keep the lights on. He and his friends organize this crew of thieves and they have no fear as their 9-to5 become burglary. Reckless antics, close calls, jail stints do not deter them as they get caught up in the glitz and glam of being hood rich. Ericka Williams has penned a common hood tale and I commend her on the lessons she brings forth in this novel. Life may be hard in the hood, but life is full of choices, and this young man is living life like there are no consequences, a scene we witness continuously. Will Chance’s life as a Robbin Hood end tragically or will he be able to master a Houdini move and escape all repercussions? Is the love for the hood rich genuine or is it just a façade of wolves in sheep’s clothing? Is there honor among thieves? Ms. Williams has depicted a very vivid picture of thievery, trickery, deception, greed, incarceration, death, drugs, sexual promiscuity, and a life of choices. This book is chock-full of realistic mentalities, scenarios and life lessons!! Great job Ericka!! Keep striving Sista!! 4.18

This book will expand your thinking about writing--how to categorize a book that is often well-written, moment-by-moment, but absolutely terrible as a book. It is the PG-13 adaptation of a mediocre book, except in book form. Every decision is predetermined by cliche. Have someone tell you the premise, you can write a better version.

Hunter read this book to me, which gave it an added dimension. I really like the book and whoever translated this is basically a rock star. In one of the last chapters he talks about those who censor holding the printed word in higher esteem than those who don't. There are a lot of other cool ideas that I don't remember.
This is an excellent short novel dealing with AIDS awareness, more specifically examining personal responsibility and social issues. At first glance it's somewhat similar to his earlier story "Carcinoma Angels," but is much more detailed and thought-provoking. The narrative switches between four interesting viewpoint characters, seeking sense and redemption in situations that overlap and resolve convincingly. It's a challenging, intelligent book; hard-hitting despite being short and fast-paced.

I’m a Charlaine Harris fan, without a doubt. I’ve loved her books since I read Dead until Dark, and I’m still reading about Sookie several books later. Complex characters populate these books, and these characters come in a variety of styles: humans, vampires, shifters. In this book, Harris also introduces another supernatural creature. One I would call almost a mythological creature, the maenad. Before I go any further, let me clarify that the show “True Blood” and the Sookie Stackhouse novels have some similarities in plot and character but also have vast differences. One of those differences comes to light early in this novel and is what starts the plot rolling. Lafayette, one of my favorite “True Blood” characters, is found dead in the parking lot of Merlotte’s. There are at least two subplots in this book: Lafayette’s murder and the appearance of the Maenad. They form the framework to the main plot. Sookie and Bill travel to Dallas to help locate a missing vampire. The reader learns more about the vampire world through this. We see how vampires in a nest interact. I found it interesting to see other much older vampires like Godfrey and Isabel who were old enough to have lost most, if not all, of their humanity. Though definitely not a main character, I found Godfrey gave me much to think about. Harris did a beautiful job of succinctly creating such a complex, conflicted vampire. While more insight of the development of Sookie’s and Bill’s relationship was interesting to me, even more interesting was the interaction between Sookie and Eric when she reluctantly calls on him for help. Eric may be my favorite vampire of the series despite his cold, calculating ways. My only criticism is about the “whodunit” aspect of the story. Things felt a bit rushed as Sookie works to solve Lafayette’s murder, something that isn’t a par of the plot for much of the book and is abruptly brought back to the forefront near the end. Lafayette’s murder does frame the main plot, but it seems a little out of sync with the rest of the story. Lastly, I loved the glimpse into Bill’s human side as the novel ends. He’s touched to find out about existing descendants in Bon Temps and is moved to bloody tears at the thought of being able to help them. It works well, especially when comparing Bill, who retains much of his humanity, to the much older vampires who have lost theirs.
