What a waste of my fucking time...not to mention my $25. This is one time that my aversion to reading dust jackets backfired...big time.

Although I suppose it is less mature, Reasons to Live was my favorite. Maybe it was just the overwhelming power of "In the Cemetery Where Al Jolson Is Buried." But I loved nearly all the stories in that book. The Dog of the Marriage was my second-favorite. I loved the title story, and Offertory bowled me over - dazzling. By comparison - and keeping in mind that I'm not much of a short story person - I wasn't terribly fond of At the Gates of the Animal Kingdom or Tumble Home. I got bogged down in the middle half of the book for a few months. In Gates, "The Most Girl Part of You" was wonderful, and I liked "The Harvest," with reservations; in Tumble, I enjoyed the title story most, but wished that the whole book were just that novella.
Probably the greatest (and funniest) academic novel ever written.

I was only going to give this book a 4, but then I kept thinking more and more about it and it bumped it up to a 4.5-5 or so...Anyway, a great YA fictional book. It took me about 20 (short) pages to get into it before I started to get a feel for the disjointed narrative (present, past memories, a manuscript/journal from the past as well). But then I loved it. It's a story filled with such hope and redemption that it overcomes all the sorrow you feel in the middle for these tough lives and kids. Even though the characters are all 17, they have lived through such difficult things in the past that they are all mature beyond their years, so it wasn't juvenile reading in any way. They also have their good share of pranks and fun things that reminded me of good old high school days. I'm really glad I read it!!!!

This was a great biography of Roosevelt's time in office. I throughly enjoyed reading it and can't help but recommend it.

Another reread. I love it when Neil fucks with religious pantheons.
After working in a domestic violence shelter, this book hits a little too close to home. The made for t.v. movie changed the ending (a mistake) and the book always haunts me for a couple days after reading it.

** spoiler alert ** I mildly enjoyed Ken Follet's other novel, Lay Down With Lions, so a family member recommended this book, saying he thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions of building the cathedral in medieval times. There is a graphic description of rape and this thoroughly disturbed me to the point that I could not read any further. Perhaps a man reading this wouldn't be bothered as much by it. Regardless, I would NOT recommend this book to anyone.
