I read this without knowing anything about H.D. or the Imaginists but simply fell in love. Somehow "cities" especially struck me, this bit: "he had crowded the city so full that men could not grasp beauty, beauty was over them, through them, about them no crevice unpacked with the honey, rare, measureless" is incredible. I want to read everything by H.D. now. I read Sea Garden as an ebook but this is one of the few books I really want in person. I loved it so much I just want to have it near me, physically. I'm going to read the rest of her work and some of the other Imaginists' now, and I hope it's just as amazing!

I kept hoping for something interesting to happen which never did. It really stretched the imagination that whatever, even the seemingly impossible, happened just because Dee Dee said it was going to be - even her announcement that she and Gabby would marry two particular young men. I didn't like the way Gabby let Dee Dee just about run her life and plan things out for her as though Gabby didn't have a mind of her own. I found myself skimming through parts.

Wrong book, or wrong time. Either way, couldn't get into it.

If you liked "To Kill a Mockingbird," you might like this one. It has a similar feel to me, though it's not as strong on suspense.

Lindsay Boxer has her hands full trying to figure out who the murderer "Chimera" is. A very well written mystery that keeps you wanting more.

Truly incredible and brilliant. The writing, the characters, the plot, the structure, the themes ... just all of it. If you haven't read it yet, remedy that immediately.
I. Love. This. Book. Everybody loves High Fidelity the best out of Nick Hornby's books, but this is by far my favorite. The two main characters, Marcus and Will, are the most flawed and loveable characters that Hornby has created. Marcus, with his hippie mother, vegetarian lifestyle, tendencies to sing randomnly, and horrible loafers...Will, with his "lifestyle" of never once having a job, stories of a made-up son to meet single mothers ("the best unknown resource", according to him), and desperate desires to stay cool...two characters couldn't be more different. Add Marcus' suicidal mother and Ellie, Marcus' Nirvana-obsessed schoolgirl crush, and the two "boys" find their worlds collide in the best way possible. This is a book I always recommend, whether or not you've seen the movie. Read it if you haven't already.
A memoir that reads like a novel, sad but good.
I enjoyed this, although it took a little while to get used to the first person POV it's written in. I can't help but compare mysteries set in Egypt during this timeline to The Lord Meren Mysteries (Lynda S. Robinson), though, and this kind of pales next to those for me. But the writing style is a bit less purple than Robinson's, so it's more accessible. All in all, it's a pretty interesting take on the mystery of Nefertiti's disappearance.
