It took me more than two years to finish this book. Had managed to get until half-way upon buying it, but couldn't get myself to continue. Basically, it's just more and more of the same. On the other hand, that "same" is also pretty damn good. And so, after two years of hesitation I decided to give its second half another chance and liked it. This novel has brilliant satiric comedy, crazy pictures and the highest amount of anecdotes I've ever come across. It's definitely flawed in some parts, with a number of redundant scenes for which the author didn't have time to do any editing. But still, I would've like to give Svejk five stars, were it not for its crazy length of 750 pages. If you want to do "the Czech book" don't do Kundera but choose Hasek instead.

** spoiler alert ** Jessie said this one wasn't as good as the original Twilight. While I was reading it I thought it was just fine (didn't really see the wolves coming, although I suppose I should have!). After watching the movie of the original Twilight I see where she was coming from. They should be able to get some of that passion in the movie, I think, though. It took some "convincing" but I'm forcing myself to like this series somehow! I really like the characters, I'm just not a fan of the writing style - I guess cause it's for teens.

Nice compilation of short stories by a classic Japanese author. I found the background to be essential in putting the stories in context, and I really enjoyed how there was a progression from simple to complex stories.

This was a really interesting look at the history of rock, but the formatting/editing made it hard for someone who doesn't know a whole lot about music to keep track of everyone. I did come away with a lot of information though, and I have a long list of bands and books I should check out now. The writing was very accessible and the authors did a pretty good job of staying on task in what could have been a very, very messy book.
