Slightly less laugh-out-loud-funny than Lamb, but still awesome. I really think Christopher Moore's author-skills are improving.

It's a story of a dystopian society in England (I am in a phase where I only read books set in England) that left me heartbroken. I enjoyed the naive voice of the adult narrator recalling her childhood.

Tyrell was, without a doubt, a page turning book. Between his relationship with his mom, him taking care of his little brother, and 'girlfriend' Novisha, I never wanted to put the book down. I'm still wondering where he ended up going and what he ended up doing after what had happened. If only the book didn't have to end.

This is by far my favorite of Philip K. Dicks books, and the one I actually wish they'd make a book out of. It's been a while since I've read it, but it definitely was the most coherent of his stories (that I've read), and the revisionist history angle was fantastic. It was a world I really got wrapped up in, and a character that I really felt able to connect with.

Tinkers is a story about George Crosby and his father, Howard. Howard's story is very straightforward, told as it unfolds, as he tries to support his family as a traveling salesman. George's story involves more of an analysis of his deteriorating state prior to his death, and his observations of his surrounding, along with some meditations on life. Ultimately, the novel serves as a somber tribute to the idea of a "family", and how the relationships have ebbs and flows as time passes. I purchased Tinkers because it won the Pullitzer Prize a few years ago. The reading experience reminded me of reading Cold Mountain, as both novels were difficult to get into, but were satisfying reads. Tinkers is written in the vein of the canonical texts that I had to read in high school and college, which made it palatable and made me pine for my days as a student. While the narrative flow and structure were confusing and distracting at times, I thought the author's prose was stunningly beautiful. In fact, there were many instances where I had to stop and reread certain passages because the writing was that impressive. If I ever decide to reread the novel, I am going to read it one sitting. The structure of the novel demands a straight reading.

I read this for book club, and was skeptical. I've never heard of it, it was from the 50s, and with limited time and lots of popular books on my to-read shelf, I wasn't inclined to crack this--until I read the synopsis. Then I thought it was too cute to not read and fell in love with it from the very beginning. I love how the author wrote, it's so witty, super quick and easy to read, but is chock full of bits of wisdom that you can chew on through the fun, fluffy parts. But if you're looking to just watch the movie, which I considered doing until I read those reviews, just know it's basically NOTHING like the book except the same title. Even the characters names are different. And it's lame.
Read this on the flight to my study abroad in France, and somehow it kept my mind fof the fact that I was in an airplane. Written under his pseudonym of Richard Bachman, this book is refreshing in the odd, other-world that King has created. Very spooky, I loved it.

Mostly, I didn't like this book. But I gave it four stars because there were bits and pieces I absolutely adored, especially the Elphie/Galinda dynamic, which made me crack up sometimes.
