In 1848, Marietta Davis had a vision where she was taken to heaven. She was in a coma for nine days and when she woke up, she told what all she saw. She was taken to where small children are taught the things of God. “Real-to-life scenes are presented to the infants to teach them about past events or to illustrate important principles.” She watched as they saw Jesus birth, crucifixion and resurrection. Upon first arriving in heaven, Marietta meets a little boy. She’s able to see his parents on earth, grieving for him. The boy asks her to give his parents a message when she goes back: “…tell them we are happy here. Tell them we have no sorrow. We are always with our guardians, and we love everyone – and Jesus our Redeemer above all. Tell them we are waiting patiently for their arrival here...” Before coming back to earth, Marietta met Jesus. He told her to tell what she experienced and that she’d soon be back…and wouldn’t have to leave. This book was very insightful. Heaven is something that’s hard for me to comprehend so to read of someone who had a vision makes it seem slightly more real for me. I had never thought about children needing to be educated on the things of God. I think this book could be a good starting place on understanding heaven.

A whinny teenage girl who doesn't fit in and plays victim? Check A cute boy that falls in love with her just because the author says so? Check A plot missing way too many details leaving lots of holes? Check It seems anyone these days can hop on the this YA Fantasy train and become a published writer. Honestly, is there any stint of originality anymore? Don't get me wrong, I love a good vampire, angel, mermaid or in this case faery book, however everything was just the same. And to be honest, I really haven't read too many faery books. But I have read many YA and especially YA Fantasy and they all follow this chart of what will happen at the designated time. But, I have to admit: I picked up the second book (which was slightly more exciting) and now want to read the rest- even though they are not the best. I'm really unsure as to why, but I want to know what happens to the characters... Well I know what will happen, but I'm just curious how they will happen. And there is probably a part of me that is hoping to be surprised. These books had so much potential.
Sad as I am to be finished, I thought this was a great conclusion to a trilogy. I think, on the whole, I found this book the most frustrating but also the most exciting. There's nothing I hate more than reading a book and have it all figured out halfway through. Luckily, that wasn't the case here. I had some theories by the end of the second book about what was going on and who was behind it. While my suspicions were right to some extent, there were still some surprises thrown my way. Even though I knew her motivations, I found myself quite frustrated with Kelley at times. However, making wrong and sometimes rash decisions is quite representative of what it's like to be a teenager - faerie or no. I also quite enjoyed some of the new characters that were introduced in this book, but I mostly loved seeing more of the same characters I've come to love since starting this series. Overall, I thought this was a refreshing, solid series with strong writing and good characters. I have a feeling I'll definitely be revisiting these characters in the future when I'm looking for a fun, fast and enjoyable read.

Hey kids! Did you read Wicked and find it to be a wildly original and intelligent adult reimagining of a classic tale? So did I! Did you think you'd be in for more of the same with Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister? So did I.
I'm extremely biased towards Tanya Huff's works. Imagine my excitement at discovering this book buried in my to-be-read pile. I began reading it yesterday. I was confused in the beginning third of the book. It's an alternative universe story so the rules of the new universe had to be worked out in my mind. At no time, though, was I willing to put the book down. The book kept me up until 2AM reading and then woke me up at 8:45AM so I could finish the story. This was my last full book read during my summer vacation. (I'm reading a new book but I won't finish it before tomorrow.) The Enchantment Emporium ended my vacation perfectly.
This is an excellent textbook which includes Western Civ from Babylonia through the 21st century. The writing is crisp and easy to follow, but very engaging. It also includes a great number of color images, maps, primary sources . . . And I've taken classes from two of the authors.
