Riveting. I was so caught up in this book I had a hard time putting it down. One of those stories where you're afraid to read on because you're so worried about the characters, but then you HAVE to read on because you love them. I read this on my iPad and was so haunted by it that I had to order a hardcover as well. (Of course, anyone who knows me at all knows that isn't that unusual for me--but I really did love this book.)

If I could have given this book 10 stars, I would have!! I think one of the reasons is that it includes all of my favorite things...History, Politics, and Alaska!! Great story about yet another group of Native people who were taken advantage of and a group that was almost wiped out culturally. Well written and very informative. :-)

Honestly.. I never even finished this book. For me when I am reading a series,if i don't read the next book a relatively short time after the last book , I lose interst in the series. THe first book Gone was great, but for some reason i just couldn't finish Hunger. I tried at least twice to just sit down and read it, but alas i couldn't. HOpefully someone...(GArica..) will tell me what happened.

This series is not panning out for me. I read the first one, and it was interesting, enough for me to read this one, Shaman Pass. But Nathan Active as a main character just doesn't grab me, and for me, that's enough not to continue. Especially with books I read for myself (as opposed to those read for book groups, or for professional development), it's important to me that I relate to the main character in some way.

This is a really wonderful collection--every essay brings something new to the table, and it made my daily commute SO freaking enjoyable. One day I missed my stop and ended up in the Bronx because I was having so much fun.
