A very light and simple read. Not exciting or much of a story. Is ok if you want a quick read "snack."

This can be a little hard to get through (language-wise for me, but maybe plot-wise for some people with easily-upset personalities), but what I love most about it is in fact the language- It's so well-written that I forget I'm reading about a pedophile. Every once in a while I jolt back to remembering what the story is really about, and become disgusted, but then re-immerse in the story. The dichotomy of it is so fascinating to me- how I can be so invested in Humbert and his emtotions and yet so utterly disgusted at the same time. Humbert is portrayed as a normal, intelligent, likeable character. save for the fact that he is in love with and having a sexual relationship with a young girl. see, how could you normally justify saying those things in the same sentence? hence, why i love this book.

A surprising page-turner.

For the right person, this book would make a great gift. It is really more of a coffee table/cook book than one that you read cover to cover. Besides containing funny projects (e.g. fake cakes) it also contains useful recipes and plenty of tips for almost any type of party or occasion. Where else can you find a list of suggested gifts for lumberjacks? I checked this out from the library and think that it might be one that I'd like to own.

R.K.Narayanan saved me from the hardy boys and their ilk. This novel in particular helped me make that shift to real books. The narrator is a tiger... this still impresses me on the concept front. Although I read it many years back I can still recall the conversation between Raja (the tiger) and his friend, the Sadhu towards the end. They discuss theology and Raja envisions God to be a powerful tiger with many arms and fierce fighting skills. The Sadhu observes that for every creature on earth, God is a stronger form of themselves... R.K.N...

A little disconnected but good.

Simple drawings reveal an almost too-intimate knowledge of the process of grieving for a lost relationship and the experience of dealing, moving on, and getting back out there, so to speak. Wry, cute, sentimental.

Absolutely painful to finish. The first half was enjoyable and interesting, and the entire second half I was just trying to finish it to say I did. Utterly painful.
3.5 stars Lily and Rule Cynna and Cullen So my biggest problem with this book was the POV changes. Just when I would get wrapped up in part of the story it would switch! And then I would get wrapped up in that part.... it got old after a while. Now Rule has two mantles and I am curious to see how that is going to work. Will he end up becoming Rho of his enemies clan or will someone else come along to take it. It was interesting to see all the power he gathered from having both of the mantles. I would like to hear more about why the mate bond is so messed up with Rule and Lily. Why is she able to get his hearing sometimes and other times not? And what is the old Eetori legend that these two supposedly meet? I think there is still a lot to come and unfortunately the next book is about Cynna and Cullen. :?
I've been reading this book a chapter at a time since Christmas. It's not quite as fun a read as Freakonomics, but it's still interesting.
