I read this book every few years to remind me what is possible in relationships. It's a gentle book, and one that uses myth and archetypes to describe the roles of men and women in relationships and how a couple can ideally mature in their love. As with all of his books, it's well read and supported work.

Yet another children's fantasy book!!! I borrowed this book from work and it was the sequel to the first one, the alchemyst. i couldn't borrow the first one b/c we didn't have the hardcover edition and we are only allowed to borrow hard covers. But, I loved it so much I bought the first book to read it. Its filed under teen fiction, but really its adult escapism. Its quite humorous as famous alchemysts, magicians, politicians, bascially anyone famous from the age of enlightenment is in this book. You have Dr. John Dee and Machiavelli (the bad guys) and Nicholas Flamel and his wife Perenelle, the Comte de St. Germain, his wife Joan of Arc... They are all immortals by virtue of gift, or because they know a special spell to keep themselves alive. The ones who were given a gift are usually in debt to an "Elder" a member of one of the ancient races that predate mankind, usually a mythological creature/god you may have heard of in folklore that now apparantly exist in various shadowrealms that border this earth in special spots. there are two special humani (humans) in this book, twins, a brother and sister who are the supposed twins of legend, and they are chasing after john dee and machiavelli to suppress the bad guys from taking over the world. Its a fun, magical book that I read in 2 days and kept me quite entertained. The author, Michael Scott is Irish, and I quite like writers from Ireland and the British Isles. I think Mr. Scott is quite talented, and I am looking forward to reading his third book, "The Sorceress" when that comes out, hopefully soon!

Finally, a book I LOVED!! The Help is about a young white woman in the early 1960s in Mississippi who becomes interested in the plight of the black ladies' maids that every family has working for them. She writes their stories about mistreatment, abuse and heartbreaks of working in white families' homes, all just before the Civil Rights revolution. Each chapter is from one of 3 different points of view, the young girl, and 2 maids. It is funny, touching and heartbreaking. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone. I actually checked this out from the library, and now I want to buy it! This is Stockett's first book. I can't wait to see what else she puts out!

I read and loved McCullough's "John Adams" last summer and a couple of my friends recommended "Truman". At close to 1000 pages it is a daunting read but very interesting. I enjoyed it very much. I didn't know much about the time period immediately following WWII and I found the political history fascinating and enlightening, especially in regards to the beginning of the Cold War. While I don't always agree with Truman's politics, I think it is clear that he was a good man--honest, moral, loyal, perceptive and generally wise. He was a dedicated patriot and he believed in America and her people.

I would have probably only given 3 or 4 stars, but since Chris made me read it 4 times in a row- the 5 star rating is earned. (= Using a robot voice is strongly encouraged.

I've been reading this one for almost 2 years. At first I would concentrate on a question or concern and then see where the book opened to. I decided at the beginning of this year to read it cover to cover with each daily reading corresponding to the calendar date. I've found that either way it's always given me something that pertains to what's going on in the moment.

Oh stream of conscious writing. Interesting to a very slim point, but overdone and needlessly opaque.

I fell in love with Tempe Brennan before the TV series. The TV series is good, but I like the books better. Her science is good, and I like her character a bit better than Kay Scarpetta in the Cornwell books.
