As a novel on its own, it's great. As a prequel to Jane Eyre, I hate it.

Worth reading for some of the great quotes Shields has chosen, but not for anything Shields himself has written. Self-important tone, unlikeable. I disagree with some basic premises in his argument, for example his idea that the fact Americans like reality shows means something new about narrative. Reality shows are scripted and edited, as an narrative is. Gimmicky.
This is the first comic book I have read in my life and I think they are really cool. I love Batman he is a super hero with no powers and still can do awesome. This comic is a really good one but, what should I know it is my first. The comic book has great illustrations the drawings look very graphic. The characters in the book are very alike to the actual personality of the movie characters. I like the book because it has action and mystery, my two favorite styles. There is not much to name in the book but it was a great first comic to read I loved it. In the story many things are happening at once. Like one thing happens then the next page is something completely different! While i was reading, I could not believe the things that happened. It is about a gang war. A serious gang war is kind of intense. It made me pretty sad when I read about all the hurt people. I was thinking wow that all happened from gangs. That's a pretty bad showing for just a few gangs. The book has serious content that was really sad like interrogation and torture. I had no idea a comic is so serious. I liked the book don't get me wrong, I hope I find the next comic and hope it's better. I like the book because it has many themes like action as an example. The book was pretty depressing at points but it also gets very exciting. I did not like the book because it had a lot of serious things, like wars for example. I hate war and death, I think its only upside is to show power with many downsides.

Strange half-ass doodles from a brilliant (and most likely "drug-addled" ... ) mind.

very funny. I liked the quirkiness of the characters.
I am having a hard time reviewing this book because I just don't have terribly strong feelings about it. It was okay. I am glad I read it, but I didn't love it. I was terribly bored at the beginning, and moderately interested once things got going. I just feel like saying "eh. I liked it." and that being my only review of the thing. Therefore, I am giving it three stars and leaving it at that.
I will give this book a 1 because I finished it and an established author tried something new. Beyond that, this book confused me and gave me a headache. The plot centers around a man who can't age or die. His job is to comfort people on their deathbed and relay any messages to loves ones before they depart. I like that part of the story, but it is only a minor point. The bigger story is the man who wants to capture the man who can't age. This story quickly fell apart and I skipped about 4 chapters just to finish it. I came away with the feeling that Burke wanted a romance novel and it failed. Many authors who write series, attempt stand alones some work. This didn't. While I can't recommend this book, I do recommend her Dear Irene, An Irene Kelly Novelwhich is part of her series that is a solid read.
I couldn't put this book down. It's a great novel that really gives one some perspective about Afghanistan and what has happened to that country. The author did a wonderful job portraying one boy's childhood in Afghanistan and his adulthood in America. Wonderfully written and definitely worth reading.
Very fun. Unfortunately, I saw the movie before I read the book, so I had preconceived images. I still enjoyed it.
