This was a good book but I didn't see what all of the hype was about. I can barely remember what happened so obviously it wasn't too memorable. You could read or not read it, it doesn't matter. It is not a life changing book or moving. It is very superficially written and you don't invest much in the characters. Your life will neither be better nor worse for reading it.

I put this book ahead of my other to-reads as my sister raved about it. Although I found it engaging (in other words, I finished it) I wouldn't rave about it. Although I liked some of the ways the author tried to give clarity to how God thinks, the entire story sounded like a drug-induced coma near-death revelation written from a new writer using a redemption story model.

I have read all of the titles in the Dark Hunter series and I am so glad Kenyon veered from the norm and gave us a heaping of Native American mythology in this title. Cowboy Jess has been a favorite of mine and it was great to finally read his own story. His melancholy story grabbed me, as did Abigail's, and together they became a fascinating couple to watch. As much as I have enjoyed all of the Greek mythology the author infuses throughout this series, it can sound a bit redundant (and I mean certain characters like Artemis). This addition gave the long standing series a welcome shot of 'a whole lot of something different' and I found it a refreshing and pleasurable read. Couldn't put it down and finished it in one night. I'm also grateful there was an "Author's Note" at the end where Kenyon tells us why she wrote this novel the way she did.

HOw do the termites know how to build their 5 foot high nests? Uses Chemical Thermodynamics to explore how evolution could possibly occur. Posits the idea that the 2nd law of thermodynamics, is more basic than quantum mechanics, ie that QM is based on 2nd law, not the other way. Read this with How Nature Works by Per Bak

I don't usually read "thrillers," so if I didn't already know and love Joanne Harris' other books I might have been discouraged by the jacket blurb. I'm glad I wasn't because it doesn't read like a thriller—it reads like a character-rich story that will just happens to keep you guessing (almost) to the end. Highly recommended.

This is one of my favorite books. And yet, I have very little to say about it at the moment.
Still the best book I have ever read.
