Doesn't come close to being as swashbuckling as Dumas himself, but what could? There are two narrative threads running through this novel, and I waited the entire book for them to reconcile and prove to be connected - in vain. The conclusion finds them to be exactly what I thought they were - two disconnected threads. Boo.

Having studies archaeology and a little physical anthropology, I found these books very fascinating. Great locales, lots of easy to understand physical science and great characters. A good series.

A great story an easy read. Well written characters that you really care about in a wonderfully painted world, even if that world is a bit scary at times.

this is a newer edition than the one that I have. I think the French course is one of his better courses, though I do question his accent a bit. The only bad thing I can say about the Michel Thomas courses is that there is always one student who is slower and irritating. I can't handle the woman on here, she's really slow and and has a horrible accent that Michel doesn't correct! (for those unfamiliar with Michel Thomas, his courses are presented like you are the 3rd student in his classroom so you hear the other two "students" throughout.)
4 good novellas from stephen king, at least two of which have been turned into movies (the langoliers, apt pupil). aside from apt pupil, pretty run of the mill stuff from stephen king. apt pupil though, is pretty scary possibility of what might happen to an imbalanced kid if he met the wrong nazi warcriminal at the wrong time.

In this final book of the Hunger Games Series, Katniss makes big decisions, namely, to become the Mocking Jay, the face of the rebellion. She finds things out about herself, good and bad. She learns more of her friends, family, enemies, and leaders(also a pet?). I really liked this book because it had a new cliffhanger at the end at every chapter. I couldn't put it down. I also really enjoyed the ending. It was true to the characters and was the best conclusion. 5/5 STARS
One of my FAVORITE books<3 I originally heard of this book from watching the inspired movie, Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon. This is a great, romantic story and incredibly well written. It takes place in San Francisco and is about a girl (Lauren) who gets in a car accident. The only person that can see her spirit is a man (Arthur). It is a very refreshing and different romantic comedy.

My list of books for the year includes a novel about WWII and so this is the one I've chosen. I'm fascinated with that period and I tend to agree with Tom Brokaw who has labeled the people who lived through it as "The Greatest Generation" I suspect that every one of us has been touched in one way or another by that war - and yet today we seldom think about it - or remember the tremendous struggles and sacrifices that were made by our fathers, mothers, grandmothers and grandfathers, whose lives were so drastically affected because of it. This novel makes it come alive for those of us who should not allow ourselves to forget what happened during those years.
Jacobsen and Coleman share some great thoughts about church which challenge much particularly in the institutional model. They chose to present this in a light narrative form very similar Brian McLaren's 'A New Kind of Christian' trilogy. However while I connected with much of the book's message, I felt it's execution was a little grating. The characters are so cliched that they seem totally unrealistic. Thankfully the main thrust of the book is the message and not the setting/characters that it's wrapped in. Although at times I sensed a slight arrogance (i.e. almost everyone out there is doing it wrong and should just switch their worldview/model to this) despite there being direct attempts to temper this attitude... so in that sense i found it a bit confusing. Still, if you look past this, it's easy to find a wealth of valuable thoughts. The book design was great too except for the typesetting which was atrocious -- an excessive brand of full-justification was used which made some lines look completely squashed and others with odd gaps. And the font chosen for the article at the end was almost criminal.
