I thought it was slightly interesting, but most of the advice was pretty obvious. I don't really think this book would have gotten published if she wasn't a celebrity.

Not a bad book. Dragged really badly in the middle. It felt like the author was setting the stage for multiple follow up books and was abandoning the flow of the story. Felt like a rip-off off Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Rowling's Potter series. Not very original.

I started reading this because I have always had an insatiable drive to know the big WHAT-IS-IMPORTANT-IN-LIFE. Undeniably, we have so many choices and not all that much time. I read books like this as sort of a short-cut: if I read what other people think is worthwhile, maybe I can skip some of my own paths that eventually turn into dead ends. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on which way I'm looking at it), a dear friend of mine dropped dead unexpectedly while I was in the middle of it. She was no where near the "right age" to die, and she had no advance warning. Suddenly, I realized there was a futility in wasting my time reading this - because it was using up what time I had left, when I really should be Out There just, LIVING, in whatever shape or form I end up with. So that is my review: Good Book. Wrong Time. Possibly entirely unneccessary.

maybe more a 2.5... maybe. it really took me forever to read... i just couldn't get interested. maybe the next one is better.
I loved this. Started out slow but soon the characters became very real for me. It definitely pulled into the Irish culture of the mid 20th century. Remnded me of my growing up..The plot developed and then had twists. The inconclusive ending reminded one of how life is. Not always closed. Oddly enough I somehow forgot I read this and less than a year later used it for a book club and I was the leader. This time really loved it. Francie and her father Johnny and her mother were distinct and very real characters. It was truly autobiographical of the author. A troubled childhood but remembered ( or imagined) with fondness.

Interesting. Not exactly a happy feel good book. No one in these series has a happy ending. I guess that is more like real life, but don't we sometimes read books to escape real life. I do enjoy the new take on fairies and magic.

This book was long and drawn out. I found that the last 200 pages is where the important story stuff happened. The first 500 pages could be skipped...
the out of control messed up house really frightened my as a child.
