A Farewell to Arms was Hemingway’s third novel and the one that brought him financial security.as well as a permanent place in American letters. Published in 1929, two years after The Sun Also Rises, it follows the life of Frederick Henry from his service in the ambulance corps on the Italian front during the First World War through the death of Catherine Barkley, his love interest. It is, as much of Hemingway’s work, semi-autobiographical. The novel is also among Hemingway’s stronger, more effective of his writings. It is vintage Hemingway both in regard to style (crisp, direct, descriptively concise) and controlling themes (war, loss of innocence, competition, masculinity). It is, in contrast to The Sun Also Rises, written with more physical action. Movement in the latter novel—with the exception of the bull fight in Pamplona—is essentially static with the dramatic interest rising from the interpersonal relationships and tensions among and between the major characters. In A Farewell to Arms, a large part of the dramatic interest builds around Frederick Henry’s physical, prolonged retreat from the Italian Front during WWI. There is the mystery, fear and tension of flight and pursuit. The novel gives the reader an intimate if cynical view of war. Hemingway’s description of the Italian retreat at the Battle of Caporetto is at once stunning and suffocating. The novel also, particularly in its latter chapters, describes a passionate but tragic love story that stands in sharp contrast to Frederick Henry’s retreat from battle. A Farewell to Arms is a classic novel from one of America’s literary giants.

Love this classic novel -- especially the romance and humor hidden under the historical drama!

The Kite Runner is a fantastic book that tells the story of personal and moral growth by examining the relationship between a wealthy Afghani and the son of the family servant. The book also tells of Afghanistan's turbulent history immediately prior to the USSR's invasion and all the way up to the Taliban's control of the country. The Kite Runner engages the reader in such a way that he or she is enveloped in the narrator's world. The characters are dynamic, and the story is fluid. Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of the novel is that it does not pass judgment on the current state of Afghanistan and the USA's involvement therein. Rather, it leaves the reader in a position to appreciate the plight of Afghanis today. Any reader will connect with The Kite Runner. This is a must-read.

One of Eoin Colfer's best books aside from the Artemis Fowl series. Very hard to put down even from the beginning.
It was great! If you've ever gotten a goofy look from an animal and wondered what they were thinking, I think you'll like it too.
