Quick read and very interesting culturally. I still think they're just throwing these pulitzers out.

What a great story to teach children about books! A great activity for after the story is to have the children write their own story book—they have to use their narrative and print awareness skills. Early Literacy Skills: Narrative Skills Print Awareness Print Motivation

I think this play has one of the best lines about enduring love and enduring through love. Even though the characters and incredibly flawed, I appreciated their vulnerability and desire to stay together despite the fact that their relationship was getting difficult. Stoppard does a great job portraying two characters who don't want to stay together because of a buildup of tension and yet who still feel compelled to remain. It's not a simplistic portrayal either. The two characters are not so devoted to love and marriage that they seem naive and idealistic about love and marriage; in fact, if anything they seem jaded about the whole idea--their last marriages ended because of their affair and there is no real indication that they plan on this relationship lasting longer than it takes for the norepinephrine to dry up. But somehow--and they are surprised by this--they want to stay together despite all this. While watching and later reading the play, I kept trying to figure out how Stoppard portrayed the conflicting emotions so seamlessly. Stoppard is a genius, though, so I still don't know how he did it but I'm glad I can appreciate and enjoy his work both on the stage and in print. A word about the understandability of this play: In his work Stoppard is often engaged in metaphysics, chaos theory, erudite history, and loads of other obscure and hard to understand devices--that's part of his charm and intrigue. Perhaps this play has such devices too and I missed it, but I found this play to be very accessible without sacrificing depth.

I'm only 12 pages in on my advance copy of this, and I already love it. Quirky, 1st person narrative, unlike any of Faulks' other books (so far, anyways!). Very, very interesting, now that I've finished it. Definitely a good read about a very strange character. Don't miss this when it comes out in the US in Septempber. Oh, and it's very British, so if you like a book filled with British slang, you'll love it.
I read this a long time ago--it really could use a re-read. I remember, though, that its slower, more deliberate pacing was far more welcome than the speed of Ender's Game, and this is definitely the best of Card's novel's that I've read. Might bump it up more, if I find time for a second run-through

I originally read this book in high school, and it really peaked my interest because I was trying to learn more about my parents' culture from a woman's point of view. It's always been a favorite, simply because the author does a good job of developing the characters' voices just enough so that one may be drawn into the stories and understand the reality of them.

Fine As We Are was a great read. It was about a small frog that had to get used to being an older brother. He was first fascinated by the little ones but soon he was very annoyed because they were always bothering him. In the end he was proud to be an older sibling because he realized he was going to be able to teach them everything he knew. I had the pleasure of reading this book to a group of 3 and 4 year olds, they absolutely fell in love with the book. They were able to answer questions about why the little frog was so upset and were able to make text to self connections because many of them were older siblings as well. This would be a great book to read for self-confidence and even perfect book to read to a child when their is another baby and/or child coming into the family.
Such a fun behind the scenes look at one of my favorite shows growing up. Alison went through a lot and has a great attitude about her life and has handled all that came her way with strength and humor. Who knew about Pa not wearing any underwear all those years!
Audiobook.
There are some very sweet stories in here, if you're not familiar with Gaiman's work, things can get a bit on the weird side, but he's a thought provoking writer if you stick with him. Kudos to Gaiman trying something new, even after breaking into the movie market with Mirrormask, (most awesome movie to come out of the Jim Henson company yet,) and new with his first collection of short stories...
