A collection of his brilliant warped fictional essays involving the president being Hitler and the Fucking Machine servicing men in taverns in the lower West Side while biting off the Cherokee's P.P. in which he falls in love with. Reading Authors short essays seem to really premold into what their whole realm of style will be (generally). Completely on a different lilipad than the more iconic Bukowski Novels, but not in a negative trend.

REQUIRED TEXT Unwind is a book that I have actually read a few times before, and it is one of my favorite books. The story takes place at an unspecified time in the future where children between the ages of 13 and 18 can be "unwound" if their parents deem them too unruly or wild. The process of unwinding makes it so that while a child's life doesn't technically end, all of their body parts and organs are taken and given to other people in need of transplants. The act is justified in that the child's entire body is still living, just in a "separated state." It's a horrifying concept, but one that is readily accepted by this futuristic society. The story follows three main protagonists: Connor, Risa, and Lev. Connor's parents have decided that his behavior is out of control, and decide it time to unwind him. Risa is a ward of the state, and despite her skills at playing the piano, has been chosen to be unwound. Lev is someone known as a tithe, a child that is chosen to be unwound due to religious purposes. Unlike the previous two characters, Lev approaches his unwinding willingly. The three characters come together as Connor breaks away from the people trying to take him away, and follows the teens as they attempt to escape their fate. This story is so fascinating because it deals with so many big topics like adoption, abortion, and religion. The world initially seems so strange and foreign, but Shusterman manages to take a bizarre concept, and actually make it seem believable. Somehow, the decisions that we are making now could potentially lead to the world that he has created. The story is entertaining and always quite fascinating and is one that I continue to recommend to readers.
