I really enjoyed this book right from the start. I liked following Ozzy's childhood and his story telling of all the jobs he had leading up to becoming the Prince of Darkness. What I wasn't expected was the humor. He and his ghost writer had me smile and chuckle a lot through this book and I enjoyed that unexpected pleasure. Although I listened to Black Sabbath a bit here and there I am far from a die hard fan but I thoroughly enjoyed "I am Ozzy"

This book was ruined for me by the mentions of ion and the unsatisfying ending.

quick, easy read, if a little predictable

I don't get why people love this book. The writing was far from fantastic. The story wasn't completely captivating. It was a free gift, and I recycled it into my classroom library. I think it is more suiting for kids to read anyway. Do adults just not read good literature?

I'd just like you guys to know that this is a reread, so I don't exactly have that big urge to rave about it to everyone anymore ( though I did the first time I read it), but I figured since I've been mentioning it around the blog so much lately I may as well write a review. That being said, I may be making references to the strong way I felt about the book the first time I actually read it. Unwind is one of those books that will linger for quite some time. It's just so amazing in so many different ways, that even after having read it a few times, I am simply amazed by how wonderful it is. The story begins with a problem. It's not necessarily the type of problem you can fix either, because the problem is this: Connor, Risa, and Lev are all more or less about to die, and there's they can do to nothing to stop it. Of course, they don't actually die (at least not in the beginning!!), because then there wouldn't be a story to tell, would there? Unwind was so much more than I had expected. That being said, I don't know exactly what I had expected going into the book, but it wasn't the depth and intensity I found. The characters were wonderful, all real and relate-able, and although the story is written in third person, I also loved the writing. It's a book I would definitely recommend, especially to fans of dystopian's, sci-fi's, and anyone looking for a slightly creepy read.

I admire novelists who are able to capture the living soul of a culture. One of the best I’ve found in that regard is Canadian, east coast novelist Donna Morrissey. Her novels are vivid portraits of maritime Canada which probe the deep set values of the people who inhabit it. She also recreates the east coast dialect convincingly. “Sylvanus Now” portrays a culture whose ingrained way of life is being pushed aside by the advance of technology. We watch as Sylvanus Now proudly and stubbornly resists the tide of change on principle and because the way of life is in his blood. His fate becomes interwoven with Addie who conversely longs to escape the life she was born to. The result is a fascinating sociological and psychological study. Donna Morrissey’s distinct narrative voice echoes throughout “Sylvanus Now”. She has clearly found her niche and mines it both thoughtfully and passionately.

Apparently I'm in one of those phases where I don't trust anything new and am only rereading things I know I loved. And if this is 1/8 as good as Bogeywoman , I will have several more very happy days. *** Good, but not as good the second time around. It seemed too short & much less complete. The main girl was awesome awesome, but the main guy was pretty inconsistent and kind of hard to believe. And the writing style started to grate after awhile. But the plot was still super, and the design advice fascinating.

A compelling memoir written by Alice Walker's daughter; her personal navigation of race and class issues starts at the heady time of the civil rights movement, and her own situation - shuttled between her parents on opposite coasts during the 1970s/1980s - makes for quite an identity crisis.

This is the only Harry Potter book I can actually vividly recall when exactly it was that I read it. I was in Costa Rica (pre-Salinger) lying on a bunk bed above Chris. He was reading Siddartha and I complained of boredom, wherein he reminded me that I brought Harry Potter. Up until this point I was pretty anti-Potter, despite never having read a page of it. As soon as I got through the first chapter I was totally captivated-- so much so, that when I was robbed the next day I seeked out the nearest library so that I could check it out and finish reading the first book on the beach.
