I graciously received a signed copy of this book due to first reads giveaway. I liked this book. It is about a teen boy coming to terms with his sexuality. A couple of things did keep me from rating this higher: I am pretty sure that youth know who they are attracted to before the age of seventeen. I knew I liked boys since first grade, it doesn't take until adulthood for someone to finally be sexually attracted to someone. Also, the teens in this book are all sex-crazed naked lunatics! Where did this author grow up that kids just go running around naked around each other 24/7 and kids are having sex with three people in a row. I realize that kids these days are more sexually charged, but come on, not like this. Otherwise this is a good book for any reader.

I have such a huge crush on Atticus Finch I can't even tell you. He's the ultimate Good Guy. This book is so far beyond your high school English teacher's lesson plan that I think everyone should re-read it as adults. This is of the few books on earth where the movie does the book justice. Oh, Gregory Peck. Morally upright AND a dreamboat.

Why the sudden drop off to two stars when books 1 & 2 received 4 stars? Because the book felt rushed (particularly toward the end) and when it wasn't rushed, it was boring. So I guess you could pin it to a pacing issue? Also, several characters (including the main one) had semi-justified but not well-constructed personality shifts to the point where I stopped caring about the characters. A book is never going to have a good review from me if I stop caring about what the main character is going through because she went from a strong, independent character to a whiny emo Bella-from-Twilight. Along those lines, I got really excruciatingly tired of the love triangle aspect. I was expecting that, after an awesome Hunger Games, and a still good, but very much middle book, Catching Fire, that Mockingjay would be an adequate conclusion to the series. I was very disappointed.
"It was love at first sight, at last sight, at ever and ever sight." (p. 307) What is there to say about Lolita that hasn't already been said hundreds of times over? Yes, the content is disturbing and occasionally brutally uncomfortable to read, but I'd be lying if I said I could look away. I couldn't. "And I shall be dumped where the weed decays, and the rest is rust and stardust". (p. 292) In fact, more than a handful of times I found myself rereading whole paragraphs, sometimes pages, two, three or even four times. Such is the absolute beauty of Nabokov's use of the english language. Never before have I read a book so gorgeously written, so witty, so breathtakingly lyrical. Midway through I started to mark pages containing a particularly striking quote with mini post-it notes. "A shipwreck. An atoll. Alone with a drowned passenger's shivering child. Darling, this is only a game!" (p. 19) Certainly I'll be rereading this again many times over, not only to study Humbert Humbert's tragic affection for nymphet Lolita, but primarily to linger over Nabokov's majestic prose. As an aspiring author it makes me slightly distressed to know I'll never paint a novel even 1/1000 as eloquently as this.

The evil, doom-shrouded hero. A nice break from all those upbeat fantasy books. Tragedy stalks Elric's life, and when you have a sword that sucks people's souls, sometimes your friends souls, you can see why.
This is an excellent overview of evolution, though it is a just a bit dated, not in content, but in the attitude of the times. Dawkins spends a lot of time late in the book defending the theory of evolution by natural selection against theories that are no longer taken seriously by anybody. Much of the material in the book is covered in his other books as well.
I found this book very self-indulgent, the story too rushed and poorly connected, and found myself groaning at the sappiness of it all. To make matters worse, the editing was horrendous, and I found at least 4 instances of incorrectly placed apostrophes. It was easy enough to read and I enjoyed some parts, but it felt like Tabin had written down whatever random ideas popped into her head without taking the time to develop a cohesive plot.
I learned to question many beliefs that have been fostered over the years. It may be fiction but it makes one think, and just maybe, much may be true.

This book was amazing. When I first saw it, I thought it would take forever to read. It was over 800 pages in size 10 font, about as thick as it was wide. I read it in about 5 days. I love the characters, the story and the adventure. This book is truly enjoyable.

This a required text for one of my credential courses. It discusses strategies but provides few concrete examples. I find myself using my other textbooks for assignments because they are written better.
