As a librarian, I simply couldn't resist picking this one up. I read more graphic novels than manga, but how could I say no to a manga about librarians resisting a government bent on censoring all information available to the public? Iku Kasahara has long wanted to be part of the defense force protecting libraries from government censors. She works hard and pushes herself to her physical limits. She constantly clashes with her instructor, Dojo, who pushes her and singles her out from her classmates. Kasahara is recognized for her hard work and determination by being singled out for the honor of being on the Library Task Force, where her fellow new recruit, Hikaru Tezuka, believes she is inferior and should be removed from the Task Force. This manga has everything a librarian (or any bibliophile) could ask for. It has romance, humor, a group of dedicated people fighting government censorship and working to put information into the hands of the people. Did I mention Kasahara has to go through intense training to master the Dewey Decimal System?

Good book. I prefer Pride and Prejudice, but this is a good read. Less emotionally stunning and more focused on undercurrent tension.

I didn't get all up in arms about this book because I read the last three books in the Chronicles long after the brouhaha had died down, but I still have to nominate Mona Mayfair for most annoying book character of the past century. I didn't think this book was the worst thing ever written by Rice (see: Violin) but neither was it as good as the two that came right before it.

Whether or not you love a cup of good Java like I do this book is a fascinating look at the history of the brown gold told in an entertaining style. It appears coffee might be the reason the West became so enlightened...ya think? Check it out...a nice easy read with some interesting facts.

This was kind of a fun, fluffy romance that I read in a few hours. If you know Jane Austen's books, it's fun to read but don't expect any depth.

Hunted, the first in The Shadowing series, is one book I wasn’t too sure about reading. I’m not the biggest fan of the cover, and the premise didn’t really sound like something I would personally enjoy. However, Hunted ended up surprising me in some big ways, because not only was I fully enchanted by the world presented, but I also adored nearly every scary yet delicious second of it. Hunted starts just about how every other scary movie does: with the POV of the “bad guy”. However, it was the perfect way to start the book, in my opinion, because it managed to capture what the book would be like: frightening and eerie yet entertaining. One of the ways that held true was through the plot. Adam Slater presented an interesting idea involving mythology as well as the supernatural with “The Shadowing." I really enjoyed learning more about it through the plot events as well as the challenges and dilemmas Callum faces throughout, especially when it threw some chilling twists and turns my way with not only change of events but also the switching of POVs. Moreover, I really enjoyed the characters in this one, even though they weren’t the best developed or original. Callum was a likable protagonist, especially given the fact that he wasn’t the scared main character usually involved with scary books. Instead, Callum was almost dauntless, facing every problem thrown his way head on. I also enjoyed the addition of Callum’s grandmother, who managed to twist the books in some great ways as well, and the group of friends Callum managed to build up throughout Hunted. Adam Slater’s writing was also decent. It wasn’t the best out there, but I really enjoyed the tone as well as voice he used in this…it felt almost like I was reading a movie screenplay in some ways, which was cool. Better yet, I loved the little twist he threw at the end, even though it means adding yet another sequel to my wish list. In all, don’t let the cover of this one keep you away like it almost did to me, because Hunted is a great book, especially for fans of YA horror. Grade: B+

Oh man, I had to fight with myself to not try to read this book too quickly. I didn't want it to end (the mark of a really good book). Julie moves into her mom's old college roommate's house with her and her family. Off the bat, Julie notices something is wrong with the family. They all seem to be living different lives under the same roof. There's a mystery here but Julie doesn't know if she'll figure out what's going on. I kind of figured out what was going on pretty early in the book but the secret is so strange and interesting, I couldn't help but keep reading to figure out what was really going on and how everything was going to come together. Park does a great job of giving hints little by little. I kind of want to go back and read the book again to see if there were any hints that I missed. I really, really liked how the dialogue was written. I thought Park did a great job capturing the different voices of all the characters. I also really liked how Park was able to incorporate using Julie, Finn and Matt's Facebook statuses to set the scene of each chapter. This is a great book for YA lovers. I think you're in for a real treat. Bottom line: This is a fun read with sparkling dialogue and characters that you will really fall in love with.
