I read this but I don't remember a lot about it. I was pregnant at the time and remembered it was very disturbing.

This is magickal practice stripped to the core. No magickal wars, no elaborate rituals- the caveat? War, ritual, flowery rhetoric, it's there for a purpose. Frou and flim-flam are how an adept controls the universe. Deception, theatrics, lies, bald lies, and statistics of the modern adept- this book doesn't forget that.

An excellent collection of short stories by the existencial genius known as Albert Camus. The stories follow relatively ordinary people, often doing ordinary things, but somehow manage to make themselves exciting and question the very basis of our interactions with reality.

Interesting. Its best if you know the Jameses and their work, but probably still OK if you don't. I was a little dissappointed in the end, as it seemed like the energy was building up to something major but nothing major really happens. I wonder if this approach is a tribute to Henry James' work (I'm thinking here of Beast in the Jungle), but its hard to say. There were some beautiful moments. All in all, a good read.

This book made me laugh out loud and it almost made me vomit- quite a trick. This is an incredibly graphic collection of stories about a group of wanna-be writers who meet at a writer's retreat and lock themselves away in order to produce their masterpieces. The situation quickly goes from bad to worse and the reader is not spared the gory details.

2/24/11 I plan on starting this this weekend and expect a great read - Should be finishe by Mon because Dana Stabenow has never let me down! I just keep reading and then I'm sorry I've finished. Oh well, it's what I do...I gotta read! 3/7/11 Okay, I put this aside so I could fulfill some review commitments...BUT, as expected Dana Stabenow didn't let me down. She does never has a single wimpy character in any of her books (not even the villians). I love her Kate Shugak novels (alright, you caught me I love all of her novels) and Kate certainly is not of the flighty pampered heroines! In this one Ms. Stabenow weaves the story of a decades old family mystery into a contemporary investigation.
One of the best. Truely heartbreaking, refreshing, funny and well written.

some shoddy piece meant to stimulate the sixth grade mind. FUCKING WRONG! all it did was get the mormon girl say she doesn't want to die cause then she'd never meet joseph smith or whatever. star trek five did a better job dealing w/ mortality. and that my friends is sad as "f"

Fans of Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, should read this book. Here's the story of how/why Carroll wrote this book. A good portrayal of the Victorian time period, this book also lends an uncomfortable feeling because of the relationship Carroll (real name Dodgson) had with Alice when she was a young child. Was he sexually attracted to her? Was it innocent? This adds a creepy factor to the story and keeps the reader interested in discovering what really happened to the real Alice of the famous story. Like the movie Titanic, this story begins when Alice is 80 and looking back on her life. I was intrigued enough by the story to research its historical roots, and the author obviously strived to offer authentic historical connections. A love story on many levels with a bit of mystery to it as well, this is an entertaining read which will probably prompt the reader to research the real story herself. Those who liked the movie Finding Neverland which provided the background for Barrie's writing of Peter Pan, should enjoy this book as well.
