This book is a stunning story about love ... it is very complex and well - crafted. Time travel is such a science-fiction thought but this story presents it in a way that is almost believeable... it becomes something you can just accept somehow.

Read this Book First in High School, Have re-read it at least once every two years since =) Frank Herberts Masterpiece, and honestly better than even Tolkien's .... ugh, I'll have to complete this review later ... at work right now =P

Unlike "Interview with the Vampire" I enjoyed this book, but that's entirely down to the story, not the quality of the writing. Lestat is an interesting character, but unfortunately Rice can get a bit bogged down with overwrought descriptions of emotions. Still, the story kept me reading to the end.

A neighborhood book club selection, and I had never heard of this book, and I knew nothing about it when I picked it up to read. Consequently, I was pleasantly SURPRISED to see what an interesting piece it is. The entire book really is like a piece of art. Like a book, a film and a collection of drawings all meshed up into one... but then presented as a "book". The story wasn't bad (wasn't the BEST story ever), but the overall "art" feel of the book makes this one stand out. I recommend you picking it up just for the experience of reading it. I've never felt more like I was watching a film while reading a book. And you can easily finish it in an hour or two. Worth a read.
The book was much better than the movie.
If u ask me what book have changed your life ? ...this the answer !
I liked this book, most of these legends are well know but it was nice to know about the untold tales of Hawaii. Mahalo!
I wanted this to be interesting and the idea certainly was, but he had an idea (that religious literacy should be taught 'cause it's all around in books and politics and such) and kept repeating it for like, the whole time! Then at the end there's a nice dictionary of religious terms and how they're being used currently and I liked that part.
Very good book...worth the read.

One of the first things that struck me about this book was the massive changes that have taken place in our society since 1928. When it comes to adventuring we have instant communication, sophisticated transport, space age clothing and tools and things such as GPS and locator beacons for when things go awry. How different things were in 1928...how raw and real things become when death is so close. I appreciated the authors ability to describe time and relationships. I especially liked her description of when Bessie saw a star go out in the night sky (p.100), her description of motherhood (p.96) and her description of the cementing of love through surprise (p.92.) As a whole I liked the book but felt a strange impatience with Bessie and Glen. I also have difficulty in reading recreations of events where the author is guessing at what may have happened. Something in me finds the exercise irrelevant and I only want to know what "realy" happened. Did Lisa Michaels travel down the rivers too? Are her observations of the walls, water and landmarks accurate or made up? How much was fact and how much fiction? I found these things gnawing at me as I read...but thats just me and my foibles :p
