I loved this one, some complain that it was predictable but I really liked it. I wasn't looking for a serious mystery and this is exactly what I got. It was funny and romantic! Just what I love!

Just started so I'm only a few pages in. So far I'm having a bit of trouble getting into it as the wording is a bit strange. Might have something to do with the fact that I'm so used to reading textbooks that I'm having trouble getting my brain to switch over to fiction style writing.

“Halfway to the Grave” is a story by “Jeaniene Frost”. It’s about a girl who is half vampire, half human. It begins with her mother being raped by a vampire and 5 months later Cat is born. The kid starts to develop some supernatural characteristics like a vampire, for example her eyes glow green when she’s angry and has really bad temper. When she’s 16 her mother reveals to her the truth about what she is and what her father is and encourages her on taking revenge. Soon Cat goes out into vampire world and starts acting like a good victim for a vampire and then gets him staked before realizing he is the victim. Until one night she targeted a vampire but his reaction was different from others, Bones was a vampire bounty hunter. He made her an offer that she was forced to take, he’ll help her find her father and she’ll kill the vampires he only orders her to kill after she is put under training. Spike trains her in a few month and soon Cat learns a lot more about vampires. The mysterious vampire gives her various tasks to do. Later on they got to know each other better and he tells her about his past and soon they develop a new kind of relationship… Cat learns later that Bones is after a vampire called Hennessey who is in business of killing and kidnapping girls, mostly ones who don’t really have a family or friends using to sell their blood to other vampires so that they wouldn’t have to risk gong out themselves to kill for blood. When they strike after her grandparents were killed by Hennessy, all Cat felt was rage and the need to get her revenge. Soon she learns that the governor is really after all this even though he is nothing but a human. She foolishly goes after him to get her revenge but his place was filled with guards so she got shot. She wakes up in a hospital where a CIA agent offers her to join them since she has enough experience about vampires in exchange of protecting her mother, no harm to Bones and saving her the years she would spend in prison, but she has to have no connections to anyone, not even Bones. Cat has no choice but to accept the offer to protect Bones and her mother … I found the book interesting since I am a big fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the book is a lot like it when it comes to slaying vampires like Buffy and Bones similar attitude to Spike. The book didn’t have much boring situations and what I mostly liked about it is how the autor could make it seem realistic to the readers.

An American classic - Ahead of its time, still waiting for some of this prophecy to come true!
Enjoyed it, despite the fact that the abruptness with which the plot-twist in the middle was thrown at the reader was not a suprising development but a major annoyance IMO - I was actually wondering for a moment if I mysteriously got a copy that was missing a chapter or something. Nevertheless, I liked the rest of the story and the characters, and the end made want to pick up the next book. 3.5/5

This is the most amazingly beautifully written book that I have ever read in my life. Don't be turned off by the story. Unbelievable that this is his second language. It blew me away.

Fast paced, easy reading. However I can't understand why people read this fiction novel as if there the biblical & religious references are true.

What begins as a discussion about friendship between two couples, one English and one American, turns into a discourse about life. The story is told by John Dowell, the American husband. He admires his good friend, Edward Ashburnham. Edward has a big heart, is a spendthrift, loves women and cherishes friends. The only one he doesn't seem to love is his wife, Leonora, who loves Edward but doesn't know how to express her love. Dowell tells the story as an observer, putting his own spin on the information and conversations he to which he is privileged. He is the last to learn that his own wife, Florence, has become a mistress to his best friend. For twelve long years John took care of Florence who pretended to have a heart condition so serious that the marriage was never consumated. When she believes that Edward is unfaithful to her, Florence commits suicide. The tale continues to its tragic end leaving John taking care of Nancy, a beautiful young woman who lived with Edward and Leonora from the age of 13. She was the last of Edward's loves but he chose to refrain from taking her as his lover and he, too, commits suicide. Yes, this review has spoilers but there is so much to this novel that I have not shared. This is only the barest skeleton of the story. Ford gives the reader much to consider and to reflect upon.
Peter Tremayne (real name Peter Berresford Ellis) is one of my all time favorite authors. I've read his whole Sister Fidelma series and am even one of the original founding members of the International Sister Fidelma Society. Oh yes, I'm that much of a dork!! These are excellent mysteries that combine historical fact with compelling human relationships and of course murder. There is totally a Scully/Mulder thing going on with the main characters as well. I own every one of his books and order then from the UK so that I can get them a full year earlier than we get them in the US. a complete unhealthy literary obsession!
