This book has its strong points: the fact that it offers an unapologetic, unflinching look into life as a depressed young woman in America, for example. Additionally, Wurtzel's writing style is insightful and interesting and pulls no punches. The book shows her battle with depression as part of a larger, social phenomenon - the alarming rise in the number of young people, "full of promise" who are struggling with this illness, or are already on antidepressants. As someone who has dealt with bouts of depression myself, I could relate to a lot (but certainly not all) of what Wurtzel went through. Yet there are many times when the narrative deteriorates into self-indulgent emotional hemorrhaging for pages at a time. After the first four or five chapters - I got the point. She's depressed, she needed help that was not forthcoming. The next 75-80 pages is just overkill. But Wurtzel herself asserts that she MEANT for the book to be annoying at times, because that is what it is like, having a depressive in your life. It's annoying. In any case, I'd advise readers to read the first four or five chapters and the last two, plus the afterward, at least. I don't regret reading it, but I don't think I'd read it again.
I'm not completely satisfied with the conclusion of the Mercy Falls trilogy. There were parts I really liked, but my overall reaction is "meh". I really wanted to give it 3 stars... but I can't. Too anticlimactic all the way through. It definitely could have been better. 2.5 stars.

Fantastic! I read this book because i was writing in a similar genre. I have a lot to live up to. I loved the characters, i loved the plot and i love the fairly quick flowing, easy to read writing style. I especially loved the way she grew the characters through the story. They are not shallow empty figures but people with a real history and purpose. I was very impressed. I will be buying the next in the series with eager anticipation. Fantastic book. Would recommend to anyone who is considering buying this book. Just do it!

Still a little hard to follow, but the story breaks off in an unexpected direction. Excited for volume 3.

Cute book, but VERY short and a bit strange. Ranger & Morelli are barely in it, but it's good for explaining how Stephanie's sister gets pregnant.

** spoiler alert ** While this wasn't a bad book. I wasn't too fond of it either. I was really excited to read it from the description, but it wasnt the ghost story that I thought it would be. In fact you never really know if there is a ghost or not. Maybe all the Ayers' really are just crazy. It makes sence with everything they have been through and the losses that they each have suffered. And the end definatly left something to be desired. On the other hand the characters seemed real and they were likeable. And the story did have a couple of really spooky moments.
