I wasn't greatly impressed with this book. I would put it down as 'OK', the illustrations were weak and pages were too busy, with borders around the text. The story feels a little contrived and is a world away from that which it is attempting to be such as Aesop's Fables and other such ‘moralistic’ stories. I felt for a book aimed at this age group it took a few pages to get into which wasn’t great but as the story progressed there were a few unexpected turns which kept it moving and elevated the book from poor to satisfactory. Overall a less than brilliant book. Sorry Oscar.

Can you really claim to be a reader if you've never read the Anne of Green Gables books?! As with most books made into movies, the books are better of course. Although I do love the Anne movies!! The books introduce several enchanting characters not in the movies, and you get to know and love them all.

So, I really don't have that much praise to give to this book. It was okay, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. The story was the best part, it was interesting and has potential, well except for the set up for the next book, should have kept us guessing, because now that I know what is in store for Book 2, I will probably skip it. The characters were just so-so, and there were too many secondary characters which I didn't think enhanced the story, in fact they detracted from the flow. The writing was just okay too, I found there were grammatical errors, which for a novel that has apparantly been edited is just not okay. Overall, it was just ok!!
