Believe the hype. Jason Aaron's tale about life and crime on an Indian Reservation is multi-layered, uncomfortable at times and excellent. The gritty slightly off-kilter artwork complements the gritty slightly off-kilter writing. If you have ever wanted to read a great comic book story, this is it.

I found myself laughing out loud a lot! It was SO FUUNY!
A great look at a relatively short period during the Medieval period with unusually cold weather and its major impacts on agriculture and human society in Europe. Very interesting in relation to global warming worries of the present.

Alexia is different from other people. Not counting her independent spirit, forthright curiosity, steadfast adherence to spinsterhood, and gleeful indulgence in unladylike topics like science, anatomy & murder, Alexia lacks a soul and her touch temporarily turns supernaturals back to their human state. That makes her a bit of a threat. Just a little. Written vs Audio: (view spoiler) The story is amusing. My advice is to avoid the audio version and go straight to the written book.
I alway enjoy Neil Gaiman. I like the way he can shift so easily between funny and scary, and I love the way he plays with mythology. This one ends with a novella about Shadow from American Gods. Kind of a DVD bonus feature. I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this first-in-a-series. I enjoyed the spunk of Georgie. A quick and breezy read! The mystery portion of the story was almost as good as the descriptions of the characters and places. I liked that the author sends you down multiple paths before you actually get to the right one. The thought-provoking statements about being the 34th in line for the throne really made sense, once I'd thought about it. Can't get a job, because you are royalty, but you have no money because, as the 34th in line, you and your family have all but run out of money. It completely makes sense. I've already got book # 2 on hand and will start this one soon.

Does book-on-tape count as "reading"?
Probably my favorite Salinger book (and I've read them all, admittedly, in the seventh grade...).

I'm halfway through this book. I'm evaluating it for inclusion in a literature unit I'm designing for an 11th-12th grade classroom. It's written from the perspective of a young teenage girl who has been raped by a high school boy. The girl gives great insight into how teenagers perceive the strategies tried by their teachers. So far the book is funny with an insight into a girl coping with her loss of security and dysfunctional family.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The comments made about there being "too much sex" in the book were unfounded, in my opinion. This is a book about human fraility, hatred, and sinfulness. However to have these, you must also have courage, love, and forgiveness and everything in between, before, and after. Catherine hated the before and after and was searching for the "in between." She began searching for her "in between" in the wrong way and was willing to do whatever it took to have it, which is why she answered the add for a "reliable wife." The snow in Wisconsin was so very blinding to her that it caused her to have headaches. As she learns to overcome the blinding snow, she comes to realize that she longs to be a reliable wife. She has to forgive herself and she must accept the forgiveness from her husband. Her love for him is symbolized by the cardinal which sits in stark contrast to the whiteness of the snow. The snow did not initially reflect purity; it reflected all the pitfalls of life. But in the end, the snow, along with the black ice, became their saviour.
