I didn't like the ending to this book...but then again...it is only the first book of the series. The suspension in this book never seems to stop! The love story (if you can call it that) in this book is so complicated (But that doesn't make it bad)...Clary (The main character) will find a reason why she can't love or even like a guy ..Not mentioning names...that will be very shocking! At least it was shocking to me =D City of Ashes...Here I come!

Well, this book was overall very interesting and at least it was something pretty different. I actually think the story could have been more detailed and much longer. It read like a short story to me. I would have been really interested to learn more about the other characters and also more details about her "dog life." In general, an enjoyable read.

I first heard this writer in an NPR interview. I liked how humble he sounded even though he had won a pulitizer for "All Aunt Hagar's Children" (which I haven't read yet). I chose to start with his first book, "Lost in the City," b/c it's about ordinary folks in a big city. And I liked the title. I also liked his story: he was a tax-publication editor for 14 years but was crafting a novel in his head for much of that time. One day he got laid off from his job, and while that seemed unlucky at first, he was able to get the book that was in his head down on to paper in three months. The short stories here are simple and straightforward, yet moving...i like that style.

Amelia Elizabeth Walden's mystery stories have a really good mix of ideas and little messages and truths about the world and intrigue and seemingly realistic ways of going about doing things. The main characters are neither perfect nor stupid.

Love the concept, like the book. Need I go into a summary, here? FINE: Julie Powell has an "Oh, shit!" moment when she realizes that she's 29, working a crappy job, living in a crappy apartment, and altogether not living the life she imagined for herself. Just as any sane person would do, she decides to redeem herself by embarking on a year-long adventure during which she will cook all 524 of Julia Child's recipes in Mastering the Art of French Cooking in one year. [Cue the hysteria, hysterics, and inevitable kitchen-shrouded-in-a-cloud-of-flour scene. Oh, and don't forget the butter.] As I said, I loved the concept. Nearly 29 and new to the art of cooking (anything) myself, I snagged a paperback copy of this book and thought "I'm going to develop a writer's crush on this woman." Weeeeeell, not so much. It isn't that this book was tough to get through, because it wasn't. I read right through it, and definitely had moments where I laughed out loud, or in the very least snorted hard enough to have to fight the urge to look around to make sure nobody noticed. However, if I'm honest, I found Julie to be a bit . . . annoying, actually. She maintains a whiny, victimized drone throughout the book that made it difficult for me to develop that aforementioned crush. This was seriously disappointing. With so much good stuff to work with, and a character as formidable as Ms. Julia Child herself, I was really expecting more out of this book. On the upside, I thought the movie was delicious. Nom. Nomnom.

Change my view of education, success and achievement. However, I'm not totally sold on all of the author's theories.

This is the best book ever. The Harry Potter series changed my head about reading. Never Better
Could be better written... though the ending is a good twist, and providing a very revealing psyche for the atheist/secular/agnostic reader who is normally a skeptic on the 'coincidence' of God in our lives.
