I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! The action in this book picks up immediately where Angelique in Revolt (Book 4) left off. Angelique had found shelter working in the home of a Huguenot merchant in La Rochelle, but they are now facing imminent arrest from the King's men for their religious beliefs. The Huguenots flee, but there's only one captain around willing to take them to the Indies - the mysterious pirate Rescator. That would be the mysterious pirate Rescator who bought Angelique at a slave auction, but she ran away before he really gained possession. Think there might just be a wee bit of tension between the two? Things really heat up on deck when the townspeople realize the ship has gone just a bit too far north for the West Indies and tensions reach the boiling point... "They were in the midst of a desert of mists and silence, an icy limbo hustling the living to their death." Well, you know I can't tell. This was a lot of fun, with most of the action taking place on board ship and plenty of dirty dealings, twists and turns and more. I thought the last 100 or so pages dragged on a bit with too much telling instead of showing as some older back history was covered. The next book in the series is The Countess Angelique (Book 6), but if you are looking for a break, this one ends on an up-note and would be a good place to stop.

Again just like book #3 this was written different. This was a journal written in 7 days but note just through Jessica as a journal but written to Marcus (off again on again boyfriend). It was a fast read and not bad, but now because I know there is a book #5 I am going to have to read it just to see what happens.

This book is really racist. I think everyone should realize that it was a different time and the descriptions are stereotypical and derogatory. But it's a book from the point of southern plantation owners and maybe that's a valid perspective....just not the only one
Another fun installment of the Incorrigibles. I listened to the audio book and the actor does a superb job of giving wolfish accents to the children. The mystery surrounding the children deepens as we await the next volume.

Nabokov is a master of language ... some of the lines in this book are mind-blowingly masterful.
This story, which uses first person view, is about Lizzy and her family (plus Clay) on a trip to an amusement park. Instead of arriving at their original destination, they get lost and end up going to HorrorLand. I thought that the rides were quite cool. I'd want to give it a try if I wasn't such a scaredycat. I didn't really enjoy this book. The characters weren't lovable, or likeable, to say the least. I found Luke annoying, Clay was useless, the parents weren't important and Lizzy was just.. The main character. I didn't really feel scared for them at all. I think it would have worked better as a TV episode, since we'd actually get to visualize the story and we'd get to see the cool rides, like that Doom Slide thing! The ending was crappy. I didn't like this book very much. Sorry.

this book really makes you think of what price you would risk your life for freedom?

Bentley Little is so very good at 'slow-burn' horror, there's not that much real gore or violence, but in the 'Mailman' he has created a truly creepy, disturbing character. Unfortunately his origins and motivations are never explained, but then again perhaps it the not knowing which makes him all the more frightening - after all, we often fear that which we do not understand, even more so when it takes on the guise of someone so ordinary and everyday, someone who we take for granted.
