I will finish it, but this book gives me an immense sense of gratitude for the knowledge of simple truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the good sense God gave me to recognize complete hooey when I read it. There were parts that were touching, but overall I don't think I would recommend this book.

I'd never read this but Perpetch recommended in on Rolling Stone so OK. I guess I liked it? It gets pretty dark and grody and hopeless in places, not 100% my thing. And it's that kind of odd book where it seems like there might be a really impressive amount of world-building going on, but you see so little of it, or such a narrow slice of it, that you kind of just have to trust that it's there. And I'm reasonably sure it is there, based on what other people have told me about this series, but still. It's very talky in places, to the point where I was wondering why this was even a graphic novel, rather than a novel. The art for the most part doesn't do much for me. And neither do the characters, really. So: truly loving this would require either A) a lot of trust, or B) to just keep pressing on to the next volume and end up loving this volume in retrospect. There are a few images & scenes where I thought: I bet that's connected to something in a later volume, and the fact that it's briefly referenced here ends up blowing your mind later on. Which is cool! But also kind of plunked. In summation I'm sure this is an important work to a lot of people, so sure that I probably won't continue with it.

Times have gotten hard in America and that's why people need the Therapeutic Forgetting Clinics. One little pill makes all your terrible memories of this or that bombing disappear. You can even make other bad memories vanish if you choose. During Nora's first trip her mother reveals a big secret memory that she wants to forget. Nora decides that it's better to remember, so she spits out her pill when no one is looking. She got this idea from a kid she say before going in with her mother. This boy turns into a friend and co-conspirator to spread the truth and help people remember. This was a fun little novel. It was fast paced and an interesting concept. I really liked the story line and am eager to see what happens next. Nora, Micah and Winter are an unlikely trio. Micah and Winter make sense, but Nora in the equation just doesn't add up. I never got a good sense of what kind of a person she was. She seemed very artificial at times, but then she's all underground rebel. It just didn't feel natural and it put me off a bit. I really enjoyed Micah though. He was a really great character. This was a quick futuristic read. The plot was the focus so the character development and world-building fell a bit by the way side. It was definitely interesting enough that I'm eager to read the next two in this series. First Line: "I'm about to forget everything I'm going to tell you." Do you face many middle school problems? Do you feel like you were put on earth to be annoyed by bullies and older siblings? If yes, you know exactly how Greg Heffley feels. He deals with an annoying older brother and problems with his dad pushing him to be more active. Greg Heffley is the main character/protagonist. He is wimpy and most things never go his way. Rodrick and Manny are Greg's brothers who mostly pester Greg and any middle child knows what that is like. And then there is Rowley Jefferson who is Greg's best friend. Rowley is really the only person Greg can take advantage of. But half the time Greg's plans to make Rowley look dumb backfire and make Rowley look good. Like I said, not much goes Greg's way. Greg is having all of his normal issues until his dad tells him that he has to be more active or he will ship Greg off to military school. This forces Greg into soccer and ill let you guess how that goes. This is the mega problem Greg faces because he is so lazy and he hates being active. This book is the third of a great trilogy that I have read and I cant wait for the fourth. Jeff Kinney writes with a greta style that can really relate the middle school age group. I loved this book and I reccomend it to anyone looking for a good laugh.

Was a bit slow at the beginning, a lot of detail that I found a bit boring. Then pace picked up. Was fortunate to see Matthew Dicks at a book signing about a year ago. If you are a writer, or aspire to be one, you should take up on an opportunity to meet him if possible. Look forward to reading his other book ...Milo.
