I was just asked why I like this one so much. So, I guess I'll write a real review. One of my biggest factors in judging a picture book is the effect on the kids. And the kids LOVE this book. We read this today in story time for 3-5 year olds, and they laughed and laughed all the way through at the nonsense talk. Then we spent another 5 minutes with them making up their own nonsense sentences. It encourages the kids to use their imagination; and that is something that is being slowly but very solidly pushed out of the picture for kids these days. They need a reason to wonder. I paired it with First the Egg and it was a great segment of fun and thinking at the same time.

for all the hype i was expecting more. i love thurber and was pleased with his usual verbal antics but it felt rather 2-d anyway. i dunno maybe i just hated the illustrations.
Krakauer's books all center on some physical challenge that ends in disaster ad reproducing what steps led to the downfall. I read this after "Into Thin Air," story about the Everest tragedy. The style in identical, but told for a second-hand view this time. A great read.

Very well-researched and detailed, but not overly dense with information.

The definitive guide to human history, written by a highly-respected expert in multiple fields. It was fascinating, and wonderful. My favorite thing about it were how Zinn completely debunks racism. It's not that any particular race are more intelligent, it's more that some people settled in areas more conducive to certain lifestyle changes. I also loved the way he showed how we all (the entire human race) started out in East Africa.
As usual, Stephen King does not disappoint. And as usual, the book was so much better than the movie. It was light on terror but a great mystery and human drama.

Wow, it has been ages since I picked up a book and did not want it to finish, have been wrapped up in Elphie and her journey she is one of the best characters I have read in a long time. Stunning book, well written with the text being delivered in several ‘persons’, which added more depth to the story, at time a little annoying as you get into one perspective and then the next turn of the page you’re part of the experience in the first person. Yes, I am going to be reading 'the Wizard of Oz' after this one and am worried that I will be disappointed, aside from everything else that will be different Wicked is a modern book and was written in a time that is worlds apart from the 50’s. The book is heavy with minority politics, and only touches on the concepts of good and evil, although in the political context it might be more relevant. What we consider good and evil is usually just a matter of historical perspective and in individuals it usual is just a matter of value references. Sadly I have not seen the play, but if you have just keep in mind that like any adaptation it will be vastly different from the book, bearing in mind, Wicked as seen on stage is a Musical ;) What else can I say except, the end is less than a chapter away and I have enjoyed myself thoroughly!! Did not love the end, she is a witch gone mad and her death a miss communication.
I was torn on scoring this one. I'm wavering a lot--from a 3 to a 5. I guess 4 is about right, though. It's a fun book, but not the right place to be starting the Newford books--it feels like a reunion/culmination book. Made me want to go back and start the stories from the beginning. Once I have a better handle on his Newford stories, I'll revisit the scores.
This book ended an left asking, "What was the point of the God damn thing?" I learned nothing, I received no closure as to what the point the book was trying to make... The author never explains anything, and he eventually just seems to be rambling. The only thing he achieves is being able to make you love some of the characters, and hate others. Other than that the book, and story are a waste of time.
