If it is historically accurate, Elizabeth I has a lot to answer for. What treachery and deceit! Told from the Earl of Shrewsbury, his wife Bess, and the Scots Queen Mary's point of view, it lets us see how difficult it could be for any monarch to stay on the throne, or retain one's lost throne. According to Gregory, Mary Queen of Scots was ordered to stay with the Shrewsburys where they had to provide for her as one would a queen for sixteen years. The Earl was ruined by the amount of expenditures he had to provide for the minicourt that arose around the queen. Gregory takes pains to be accurate, so she does not manufacture any events that cannot be documented. There is no meeting of Elizabeth and Mary. Fascinating.

Wow, for a rather outdated large book, with subject matter you would think was dry and boring...this book was the best US history I have ever read, or been taught all through school. It tells the truth about our history, rather than the normal rant we all are taught. For instance, Columbus is no hero, but a murderer who massacres entire populations of islands. The book starts with Columbus and ends with terrorism in the 2000s. It was hard for me to read the criticisms of Carter and Clinton, but I do believe this author, who pulled no punches. Read this one.

This Book was a really dark book. Christopher kinda turned it into a comic book which also made it fun. locke kinda had this venom villiam side of him which was his main problem. throught the book he gets into problems but eventually everything falls into place. locke has problems making friends but soon discovers a sort of new world and suddenly has huindreds of frinds such as goths and metal heads. he eventually getsinto trouble with his new found friends because of his "venom".

I had a good old time reading this book. Benjamin Kunkel's writing is humorous, but it's not up there with David Sedaris quite yet. What I enjoyed most was the absurdity of the plot - dude goes on pill to cure desease of indecision and ends up in Ecuador with random girl. What I liked least was all the hinting and not-so-hinting at the incestual desires he has for his sister. Yuck. A quick read that you will enjoy. And I learned some things about Ecuador.
