Writing a reasoned, detailed, and appropriate review of this book requires several readings. Let it just be said, after one reading, that it is impressive. One of the finer examples of the multi-layered "classic." The Pevear/Volokohnsky translation is modern, accessible, and engaging.
When I finally managed to speak, I asked him, "But...what are you doing her?" And then he repeated, very slowly and very seriously, "Please...draw me a sheep..." In the face of an overpowering mystery, you don't dare disobey. (4) I wish I knew french.

Before I tell you how great this book was for me I should let you know about the obstacles it had to overcome. I slept through the Musical. I have an aversion to melodrama. I find long stories a bit tedious. I feel even worse about long sentences and long paragraphs. I do not have a good eye for detail and glaze over when I think i am receiving too much information about matters that don't interest me. All that being said I loved this book. From the outset the character of the Bishop's disarming goodness drew me in. I found the selfless nobility of Jean Valjean frustrating. He could have saved himself and other a lot of pain with just the tiniest drop of self interest from time to time. Gavroche endeared himself to me, Enroljas and his friends inspired me with their "foolish" idealism. And the tortured soul of Javert who lived his life in a straight line and could not handle any diversion.I could have done without Marius and Cosette who had the weirdest relationship but who am to judge from my 21st century perspective. I learned heaps about the Battle of Waterloo, the Parish sewers, the rules of a convent which may help me in the future but i am not sure how. When I finished I felt that a significant event in my life had finished. The story will stay with me. I might even try to watch the musical again.

One of my all time favorite books. How difficult it is to be different.
that when you think "i can't live with myself" you are obviously talking about two different selfs. and then it goes on from there.
My friend Melody said this was the worst book she's ever read and also that it was a blatant ripoff of Cormac McCarthey's Child of God. So I read it and then I read Child of God so I could argue with her about it. She likes to express contempt for the things I find interesting. It's a boy/girl thing. Both novels were good. Child of God is excellent and I liked it quite a bit more. No resemblence at all in theme or perspective to The Wasp Factory. Except there are serial killers in both novels who are the main characters.
Amazing comic book describing Iran before/during the revolution. Must read.

I really enjoyed Rebecca. I thought it was gripping and spooky. "Last night I dreamnt I went to Maderly again" is a quote I find very haunting... I was a little disappointed by the ending, however. I felt it was a bit rushed, like it all happened to fast, without much explanation.
Ah, the volume with the infamous "STOP JOKING SAKURA" chapters. Yeah, that didn't go down well, did it? At least Sakura meant well. The fight between Killer Bee and Kisame was pretty epic, as was Sasuke's release of Susano'o against Gaara. I don't get people giving Gaara shit for crying a little over Sasuke's story; if anyone in that building understood Sasuke's situation the most, it would definitely be Gaara. Re-read the part of the Genin Test arc where Gaara fights Naruto then come back and try to say chapter 464 is implausible. I can't help but laugh at the last page when Kakashi points out the Sai doppelganger but I don't know why. Maybe it's because Sai seems unreal already without a shadow clone of him running about? Not that I don't love Sai cause I do. Volume 51 looks like it'll have a lot of uncomfortable revelations for Naruto.
