My pedretician let me borrow this book. My mom told her I enjoyed reading so she picked up a book from her bookshelf and handed it to me. She said I would like it. I was 16 years old and yeah I liked it enough to give it five stars.

Great surprise ending...
I truly found this book to be more entertaining than the title allows. Very, breath-of-fresh-air feeling.
A fast quick read, highly enjoyable. It uses every major theme ever used in science fiction and crams them all into one crazy quilt book. As the blurb on the back screams: "Funnier than The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy! Tougher than The Mercenary! Shorter than Dune!"

I first came across American Born Chinese at Giant Robot in San Francisco and ran into it again at a publisher's booth at the midwinter meeting of the American Library Association. At that meeting, it won a major award for young adult literature -- the first graphic novel to receive this award! I read it a few weeks later and loved it. The story is interesting, with one of three plots coming straight from a Chinese legend, and it skillfully explores difficult issues surrounding identity, alienation, racism, and the true meaning of the Transformers. What stands out, for me, is its use of color. The faces of the characters are expressive and the line work is beautiful, but in this book, the lush colors are amazing. Other sections of the book are even prettier than this excerpt available online here: [http://www.firstsecondbooks.com/abc/a...]
