Okay, so Cormac isn't that bad. I enjoyed this read much, much more than The Road.

A fascinating look at the idea of Eros in the classic writings of Renee Descartes, William Shalespeare, and others. Beautiful book.

A pretty in-depth look at the government's reaction on September 11, the history of Al Qaeda, and the Bush/Cheney administration. I'm sure the author put a positive spin on his own involvement as the counter-terrorism chief, but the book helped me to better understand the United States' ongoing conflict with terrorism.

I was, as many were, drawn to the elaborate and fanciful cover. What with the pretty girl with the pretty dress and the...well, pretty hair, it'd be hard to draw away from it. So, naturally like a girl attracted to beautiful things, I picked it up. On the way home from Barnes and Nobles, I started it. That night, I finished it. The array of YA these days is dizzying. From vampires to angels to whatever else is taking root on the shelves, dystopian is a breath of minty, fresh air. Most importantly, Lauren DeStefano does it right. Sure, some might feel as though Cecily's character outcome is a bit dark. Sure, but the book is...well, rather dark for YA fiction. Considering the book is featuring girls being kidnapped and taken into any of several possible 'dark' occupations, it should expected to be a bit more morose than others in it's genre. The only fault that I can personally fault with this book is the character of Linden. He is, in my opinion a bit weak compared to the other strong characters in the book. He's out-shined, especially when put in the same room as his brides. However, I can easily overlook that and take the book and enjoy what I do find is a pretty damn good YA.

The last book of Ally Blue is terrific! I began to read it at 10.00 p.m. and, really, this is not the hours to begin a story that tells of shadow monster. In this moment I'm in bed and look with fear at the shadow behind me... Sam is a psychic who accept to work with a group of scientists and investigate on an haunted house, Oleander House. When he meets Bo, the group's leader, he immediately feels attraction for him: not strange, Sam is gay, even if he normally doesn't say it. But Bo is married, he has two sons, and, even if he is attracted by Sam, doesn't want to admit hid being gay. This book can hardly be described as a romance... better description is paranormal suspence. The feelings it stirs up in me are of fears, not of desire. But it is really well written and has an open end that leaves you hungry to read more. http://www.amazon.com/dp/1599983559/?...

Jacobsen and Coleman share some great thoughts about church which challenge much particularly in the institutional model. They chose to present this in a light narrative form very similar Brian McLaren's 'A New Kind of Christian' trilogy. However while I connected with much of the book's message, I felt it's execution was a little grating. The characters are so cliched that they seem totally unrealistic. Thankfully the main thrust of the book is the message and not the setting/characters that it's wrapped in. Although at times I sensed a slight arrogance (i.e. almost everyone out there is doing it wrong and should just switch their worldview/model to this) despite there being direct attempts to temper this attitude... so in that sense i found it a bit confusing. Still, if you look past this, it's easy to find a wealth of valuable thoughts. The book design was great too except for the typesetting which was atrocious -- an excessive brand of full-justification was used which made some lines look completely squashed and others with odd gaps. And the font chosen for the article at the end was almost criminal.
