A little gross sometimes and I shouldn't have read some of the chapters during lunch. Other chapters were informative and interesting. The author throws in too many personal comments. Had to make myself finish it.

I found this book interesting because I'm from the area where the writer lives and where the story is set. I left immediately after I graduated from college because of the conservatism of the area and I felt that I could never have a happy life there. It's interesting to see another point of view.

I had to read it 10 years ago, I finally did it. Stendhal is a good writer, very pleasant style but he lacks empathy for his characters and more generally for human beings... however i ended up in liking Julien Sorel- un june homme d'ambition- and that's certainly a good novel, about french plotics, clergy, ways of life
