Another YA novel. And my entire review could stop right there. I'm not saying I was blown away by Chloe's story, but I will say that it had some interesting elements. I was much more intrigued with talk of necromancers and werewolves than shape-shifters. Kelley Armstrong could have done a lot more with the characters in that book than keep them hiding here and there for way, way too long, but I liked Chloe and Derek enough that I could get through it. Maya, Rafe, and Daniel are horrendously flat, good looking, easy-going, flirty, great, awesome, super, sweet teen characters. Did I miss any adjectives there? Each character (whom I assume will be part of the story later) is introduced with such dullness that I could not contemplate reading anything more about them. It was basically a remake of Chloe's story, but with shape-shifters. This time, 'Derek' has no BO or acne. They're all just really hot! Yay! In short, there is no depth to this book whatsoever. I thought Armstrong had a great idea with these kids who were treated as magical experiments, but she lost me with the tired old love triangles and archetypes. Boring.

Solid stories about kids in real life situations - abusive parents, obesity, racism and loss. The author shows that he knows how adolescents "tick". Some have humor, but all have serious emotion and face serious choices. For those that may have already read Ironman by the same author, you'll hear more about some of the characters - as they come to life in these short stories.

I'm not sure what led me to this novel but I'm glad I got it because now I have another author's catalog to devour. Blending metaphysics and mirth is usually a losing combination but Morrow pulls it off with aplomb.

I get that these books are simple and the writing isn't brilliant and that I'm not the tween target audience, but they are just so fun!

I have learned a great deal about educational research throughout the process of studying this text for my graduate course. I knew there were different types of research prior to reading this book but I did not know the terms “quantitative” and “qualitative.” Now, I know the terms and have a solid understanding about the theories, processes, purposes, benefits, and limitations of both quantitative and qualitative research. This textbook really opened my eyes to the amount of planning, effort, and work that goes into conducting quality research. Perhaps the most valuable skill I learned from reading this book is the ability to better understand and more strategically evaluate research articles. This skill will most definitely follow me through my graduate studies and into the field. Contains plenty of graphic organizers and other features to help the reader process information. A companion website provides quizzes and essay questions to test your knowledge.
